Solved Windows 11 nightmare - Randomly crashing on new-build

Please post a new set of V2 logs and I will take a look at what they show for the current drivers.

You can try a graphics stress test to see how well the system responds: FurMark - GPU Stress Test

You will find the graphics card data in the GPU.txt file.

Your first V2 log showed you were on a driver dated:
DriverDate : 18/10/2021 01:00:00
DriverVersion : 30.0.13023.1012

Your latest V2 log shows that by reverting to the MSI website driver you are now :
DriverDate : 26/08/2021 01:00:00
DriverVersion : 30.0.13014.8

So you have gone back to an earlier version which has been tested by MSI. Hopefully this works better but with the changes happening to W11 on a monthly basis I would keep an eye on the MSI website to see if they update it anytime soon.

Oh, I wasn't expecting that to be honest. But you're right, I best see what happens now and if it still crashes, I'll be back on this thread.

Just want to say a big thanks phil and the rest of you for helping me with this.

Take care

Good morning. Sorry for bringing this thread up again, but I wanted to say that so far the pc hasn't crashed, but if it did crash, do you want me to take note of the date/time it happens and is there anything else you want me to do when such an event occurs?

Thanks for the update, hope it continues trouble free.

In the event of new problems, we can get most of the data we need from the V2 LOGS so please post a new set after any BSOD.

EDIT: Windows 11 did an auto update on 10/03/22 and has updated the MSI AMD drivers to 30.0.13023.1012, although not sure if it's actually made such an update.

Good morning.

After multiple tests involving placing pc in sleep and many reboots, I'm glad to report that I've not had a single crash, so a very big thank you to you all and especially @philc43. I'm hoping the update/fix to the video card drivers has resolved this issue.

Since all has been well, I want to move on to tackling the other issues:
  1. When the PC now boots up and windows shows it's logo - After the logo, the pc goes into a black-screen for a lengthy 7-10 seconds before the login screen appears. Windows Event Viewer shows some issues, but being honest, they are beyond my understanding. Assuming this black screen was not there, windows would normally only take less than 5 seconds from showing logo to the login screen.
  2. Errors on a previous SSD disk drive - This drive as mentioned in my post #7 has already been disconnected, but once I've resolved the above black-screen issue, I would like your help in resolving this problem too. I will go into more detail at a later stage, but for now I'll leave this issue out.
To help you, I've attached log file I've created today with the V2 LOG COLLECTOR. If there is anything you'd like me to do to help, please let me know.

Thanks.

Hello TCWindows,

It looks like the MSI Center software is causing these problems. Try disabling it or uninstalling it to see if it makes a difference.

Hi Phil. Thanks very much for your prompt reply. I have removed the full MSI software including it's SDK. But after restarting, it hasn't unfortunately resolved the issue and I still get a black screen after the logo for approx 7-10 seconds before the login screen eventually appears.

I have attached another Logfile which was created after the uninstall of MSI software.

Please perform the following steps and indicate any changes:

a) Click these four keys: Win + Ctrl + Shift + B

b) Uninstall any of these non-Microsoft software:
a) antivirus
b) firewall

c) Place the computer into clean boot

d) Run:

If you can check Task Manager you will find a Startup tab that list the programs that start at login and their impact on start-up time. Please check this to see if you can see what may be causing the delay. Otherwise, as zbook has indicated, the clean boot process might be worth trying and then you can add services and programs back into the start process until you find the one that causes the delay.

Thanks for the instructions zbook. I hope I've done what you've asked me correctly, but if not, please let me know.

  • I have managed to run the .BAT file and here is the link to the LIVEKERNEL file.
  • I don't have any external antivirus and simply use the standard windows defender and windows firewall.
  • As you can see below, I have disabled all the apps for a clean boot.
  • Not sure what you mean by "modify the msconfig settings".
  • Sadly this hasn't made any difference to the boot time and I still get a black screen before login screen.

EDIT: APOLOGIES, BUT SINCE I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF INFO I'M SHARING, CAN YOU PLEASE KINDLY CONFIRM THAT BY POSTING ALL THESE FILES, I'M NOT PUTTING MY PC AT RISK OF ATTACK OR HACKING???

Please review the tutorial on clean boot.

In the left lower corner search type: msconfig > open system configuration > click on the services tab > hide all Microsoft services > uncheck every displayed box so that there are no longer any checked boxes > click ok > reboot > report findings

YOU ARE A STAR!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D THANK YOU!!!

I have just disabled all the Non-Microsoft services in msconfig and instead of seeing a 10 second black screen, I'm now seeing the login screen within only 2 seconds !!!. So that means that one of the services is causing some sort of issue. What should I do now? enable one at a time to see which one is causing the lengthy delay?

BTW, thanks for the reassurance with regards to risk of hack. I'm happy with that. The FBI/CIA are more than welcome to hack me - They'll only find my stash of p0rn :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: (Joking)

The tutorial on Clean boot gives a process for adding them back in groups. It can save time doing it this way. Simply keep halving the size of the group that causes the 10s black screen until you home in on the one service that causes the problem.

Thanks for clarifying this phil. It's taken a while, but it seem to be the AMD External Events Utility that's causing the lengthy delay.
I must add that unlike before where I was constantly getting a delay, it now seems to be more random. I will keep testing, but not sure what to do with this app/utility.
