Windows 11 Pro and PaintShopPro 2020

I have a new HP laptop running 11 Pro 64-bit edition with 20GB ram, and a 2T HD, and a 11th gen iCore, using IRISxe graphics.

Needless to say, I have been running into numerous issues since getting this laptop with 11 Pro on it - there are MANY things about 11 that just plain SUCK!

Anyway, I am using Corel's Paint Shop Pro 2020 (64bit) with both 32 and 64 installed as I always do. General functionality of the app is actually okay, and it initially loads pretty quickly as well. However, after it has been running for some time (on-screen or just in the background) that app freezes up and will do absolutely nothing. It will not restore the app to the screen from the taskbar, it will not restore from Task Manager, it will do ZERO functions of any kind, and the ONLY thing that changes it is to punch the "end task" in Task Manager.

I don't know if the issue is actually with Windows 11 (as I suspect: PSP 2020 ran fine on Windows 10 Enterprise, and before), or if it is with Corel's app needing something it doesn't have/get to operate properly, and the truth is: I don't really care which it is, but this late in the game for this OS and that app to not be playing nice by now...unacceptable!

I've not found this issue or a solution to it anywhere as yet - if someone here knows one: THANKS in advance for sharing!

First thing I would do is install all the Visual C++ Runtimes.
That may solve the problem or might not... but it won't hurt anything, and they take hardly any space...

Thanks for the idea. Will have to look and see where I am at with Visual C++, and give that a shot. With a 2T HD, not too worried about space.

All of them together are like 120MB. Pretty tiny.

The latest version of Visual C++ Runtimes can always be found here on GitHub - latest release was 3 days ago.

I'm all in on those updates, issue still exists though.

It's so bad, I can walk away from a project for 30 minutes, come back, and can do nothing! Not continue working in any way - just frozen/locked solid, and I have to Task manager my way out of it, and restart it (NOT helpful when dealing with graphics).

I see you have 20GB of RAM... that "could" be filling up, and causing the freezing.
A lot depends on how you have your Page File set up I would guess.

You also mentioned you have PSP 2020 64 AND 32 bit installed.
Though I'm not familiar with PSP 2020, I do know that... Win 11 is ONLY 64 bit.
So I don't see any reason to have the PSP 32 bit version installed.

Problems like this can sometimes be a difficult and lengthy process to pin down, sometimes not. It's almost better if it explodes and burns on the launch pad rather then half way to the moon. One thing that always remains the same however, the fix is a click or two away.
Download and run "whatishang" . It is a very small portable utitlity. Launch it and park it on your taskbar. When PSP freezes, call it up and manually generate a report (or just set it to auto via it's options menu.) Much of the apps report is programmer speak but it also lists dll's and strings involved in the hang. It,s a starting point to work with.
