Windows 11 Professional
Hello All,

I was hoping that this pesky little issue wouldn't follow me over to Windows 11 but it seems it has, albeit with a slightly different message and I'm yet to find a solution.

I am running Windows 11 Professional (although it's called Windows 11 Business in System -> About) - 21H2, OS Build 22000.318.

I am joined to my Azure Active Directory (AD) domain which is why it shows as "Windows 11 Business" but it's essentially Windows 11 Professional and the OS Version is linked to my Azure AD account.

In Accounts I have two accounts listed:
- Workplace or School Account which is the one connected to AzureAD - Sign In Options is set to "All apps can sign me in" and can't be changed
- Microsoft Account - this is needed for things like Microsoft Store - this is set to "Microsoft Apps can sign me in" - the other option is "Apps need to ask me to use this account" which I haven't selected

Both accounts use 2 Factor Authentification so Windows Hello for Business, Security Keys, PIN etc.

I continue in Windows 11 to get the annoying message which now shows as follows in Apps & Features:

1.png

I also get an irritating notification but I think I've "muted" that off in Windows 11. In Windows 10 it was harder to mute it.

If I click "Sign In" as per the button, I get the following the Windows Hello prompt - if I let it scan my face, the messages goes away but it reappears about 24 hours later and the process starts again.

If I cancel the Windows Hello box and select use a different method, I can see a sign-in box showing it is my Microsoft Personal Account it wants to sign in to. Again, if I use a different method so say App Sign in, it seems to have worked but just returns again 24 hours later.

Here is what I see after the signin completes but before it resets 24 hours or so later:

I know I have seen people having this issue in Windows 10 and it is to do with "Shared Experiences". I've tried everything I've ever seen listed such as turning Shared Experiences off, removing accounts and re-adding them etc. This is a clean install of Windows 11 Pro so I know it's not an issue that should have followed from doing an in place upgrade from 10 to 11.

The only "solution" I have seen is to completely disable all notifications in Windows which isn't a solution at all, just covering your eyes and hoping it goes away!

Does anyone have any idea how to sort this out?

As it takes 24 hours to do this I do wonder if it's something to do with 2 Factor Authentication - I think I tried using an App Password historically but Microsoft removed support for this as Windows 10/11 allow the 2FA Login so that didn't work either.

Thanks in advance - hopefully someone has worked this one out! :)

The MS Store shouldn't. I am running Windows 11 Pro and don't have an issue with MS Store staying logged in.

Unless your computer is losing it's internet connection every night for a significant amount of time, you should not be having this issue, so the problem is elsewhere.

I have Windows 11 Pro as well, and am logged into the MS Store ONLY, and I don't have any problem either.

Thanks for the replies - are you both using a Workplace or School account as the logged in account into Windows? I think it may have something to do with that you see. If the logged on user was using a Microsoft Personal Account then it would not log out but I suspect it maybe because I'm logged in with my workplace account and the Microsoft Account is a second account.

I'm just not sure if this behaviour is "by design", can be amended so the account stays logged in or not.

You CAN access Microsoft Store without logging in. You can download or update apps from the store without an account.

But, you need a MS account to buy/download purchased apps/games.

Obviously, because purchasing with money requires a payment profile on file which is tied to the Microsoft account.

My response was limited to just free apps and updates.

If you're joined to Azure AD Domain that would indicate your place of business is using Azure Active Directory to manage their desktops instead of using an on premises Active Directory.

Are you a member of the IT Support team at work? They should be able to help you manage any negative policy issues such as this.

Hi - I am basically a personal user who has AzureAD - there's no "actual" workplace as such, I just like the setup Microsoft has so I can domain join my devices etc.

Hi there
OK not the answer the OP wanted but I concur with those who say there's absolutely nothing on the Ms store that I need or want -- if I want some software even if it exists in the Ms store it's always IMO far better to go and install from the developers site. My experience is that anything from the Ms store is hobbled in functionality compared to the developers direct download / install.

I use a local account on Windows but have no problems with having an Ms account for say signing in to teams or one drive or using some Ms office apps. So I'm surprised for example that you need to have a Ms sign in on Windows to connect to Azure. I would have thought that just a sign in with your Ms account on to AZURE would have been sufficient.

Cheers
jimbo

Understood. I'd really like to help but since I am sort of anti-Microsoft Cloud I don't use, share, enable anything like that from Microsoft.

What if you temporarily disable 2FA (or they won't allow that?) I'm just curious if the 2FA is somehow creating a timing issue on response or something like that.

Do you have access to any type of Microsoft Azure AD support from Microsoft? If not directly from Microsoft then what about their community?

Hi - yeah I tried disabling 2FA originally and it did the same thing but it does sound token related.

I'll reach out to their support and see if it is a known issue - I can't be the only one out there signed on to a machine with a workplace AzureAD account who has added their personal account to windows for mail, store etc.

Thanks again :)
