A few things I want to bring to your attention. Just because SSE4.2 was introduced in 2008, doesn’t mean all CPU Architecture has it. (Newer CPU’s would) If they did, there would be less posts from people in this forum who don’t have it, needing a workaround to upgrade to 24H2. However TPM2.0 is more of an issue than SSE4.2 these days, hence RUFUS.


Some things to point out.

It is very rare that Intel doesn't list available Instruction Sets (in detail) on their reference pages for a particular CPU. Your CPU is the first instance where I have found that SSE4.1 &/or SSE4.2 wasn’t displayed on their reference page.
Having said that, I believe (after inspection of other spec sheets for your CPU) that your Acer Processor does in fact have a CPU with SSE4.2


Therefore: I believe your problem might be related to trying to Upgrade from Windows 10 22H2 to Windows 11 24H2. Steeping stones may be needed.

Please let us know if you were successful in upgrading through an In-Place Upgrade, to 23H2.

Windows will not want to update to 24H2. Windows Update knows this is an unsupported device so it will not offer the feature update.

If you want 24H2 then you will have to do a manual in-place upgrade. You should have no problems running 24H2, your laptop's i5-3230M is a 3rd generation Intel Core CPU, all Intel core CPU's had SSE4.2 from the 1st gen on. My System Two with its 1st gen i5 is running 24H2, and Insider builds up to the latest Canary build.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

    My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Dev, Beta, and Canary builds as native boot vhdx.
Might want to keep in mind there are networking issues (for some) in 24H2. Some networked devices might not show in network explorer. Just sayin'...

22H2 and 23H2 share a common set of system files. To upgrade from 22H2 to 23H2 all you need to do is install the Enablement Package that turns on the dormant 23H2 features that were already in 22H2 from build 22631.2506 onwards. You don't even need a workaround, it doesn't check for a supported device.

    My SYSTEM FOUR was a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (1st gen) type 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device. This has now been sold. It has been replaced by my System Eight.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

It is very rare that Intel doesn't list available Instruction Sets (in detail) on their reference pages for a particular CPU. Your CPU is the first instance where I have found that SSE4.1 &/or SSE4.2 wasn’t displayed on their reference page.
Having said that, I believe (after inspection of other spec sheets for your CPU) that your Acer Processor does in fact have a CPU with SSE4.2


Therefore: I believe your problem might be related to trying to Upgrade from Windows 10 22H2 to Windows 11 24H2. Steeping stones may be needed.

Please let us know if you were successful in upgrading through an In-Place Upgrade, to 23H2.

Hi mate.

You could run the enablement package mentioned, but in my opinion it isn’t as healthy an option as running an in-place upgrade. There are benifits of running an In-Place upgrade, it will fix or tweak any issues accumulated sine running 22H2 for so long whilst leaving all your stuff intact.

I don’t know why RUFUS won’t allow you to do an In-Place Upgrade. Are you running the install/setup executable from within File Explorer?

Try running the Enablement Package first, then trying the In-Place Upgrade again with the Media created with RUFUS and the 23H2 ISO.

Also, now that we have established that your CPU does in fact support SSE4.2, I still don’t believe that Windows will attempt to upgrade your system to 24H2.
Although I don’t know this as fact, I don’t beieve your Laptop would have TPM2.0 therefore the upgrade probably wouldn’t be offered.

But if you don’t want 24H2 and you are worried that your laptop will be upgraded, after all this is sorted, you can specify that Windows Update only gathers updates for 23H2 by specifying as such.
