Microsoft is yet to announce an official release date for Windows 11 version 22H2, but I have heard via my own contacts that the current planned general availability date is set for September 20. This date could still change, but that's what I'm told Microsoft is aiming for as of right now. The launch build of version 22H2 will ship as build 22621.

Additionally, I hear that the company is planning to roll out its first "moment" update for version 22H2 before the end of this year, which will add a handful of additional features that weren't finalized in time for the launch build such as tabs in File Explorer and Suggested Actions. This is what Microsoft is testing with Windows Insiders running build 22622 right now.

As always, until these plans are officially announced, the dates mentioned here could slip. But this is the current plan.

Ah. That's why. You can leave but it's not effective until the next major release is out. Says that in the Opt Out message. You'll still be right where you were and get security updates until 22H2 is RTM. I know that's alledgedly today, but who knows.

It will be 22621 unless MS throw a curveball.

The issue is if they release 22621.521 or 22621.598.

It is quite possible they could issue as 22162.598 but the hidden features are removed as part of the release, or they leave them there and remove at next round of cumulative updates (updates can remove as well as).

In short, we do not know, and maybe we will find out soon........

They can release them gradually, just like they did in 22622, once they are approved and tested.
Releasing 22621 does not change anything, 22622 will still be the insider version for next 3 years.

No - Beta build will upgrade to new build numbers - next RTM will be in 1 years time.

22621.521 i would imagine as that latest build i did clean install 22621.4 from UUP Dump yesterday and it updated to 22621.521 without any insider program be intresting to see build from MCT might get 22621.521 on that we know soon

Microsoft have a series of 'Moments' in the pipleline, minor feature updates by Enablmement Package like those used in the last few years for W10. The first Moment for 22H2 is expected before the end of the year and will likely be the 22622 build with its Explorer tabs. That's why it makes sense to have the feature in, or delvered in the next CUs, but left dormant until enabled.

Windows 11 “Moment 1”, “Moment 2” are the next major updates with new features

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

The MCT should be able give you that within an hour or so of the release. It's usually the last thing to get updated.

I installed the ISO, no problems so far. Looks like the beta version I have installed. Yes, I do maintain a backup of my OS.

They are as user friendly as all the feature updates for Windows 10 since the 2004 Feature update - all done by a small enablement package that turns on dormant features already delivered efficiently and painlessly in the last few CUs. The only real change is that MS will call them 'Moments' from now on. All such enablement updates can be recognised as such by only bumping up the build number by 1 each time, and not creating a windows.old. Expect 22622 to arrive a month or so after 22H2 is released.
