Windows 11 version 22H2 build 22621 rumored to be released on September 20, 2022

  • Staff
UPDATE 9/20:

Microsoft is yet to announce an official release date for Windows 11 version 22H2, but I have heard via my own contacts that the current planned general availability date is set for September 20. This date could still change, but that's what I'm told Microsoft is aiming for as of right now. The launch build of version 22H2 will ship as build 22621.

Additionally, I hear that the company is planning to roll out its first "moment" update for version 22H2 before the end of this year, which will add a handful of additional features that weren't finalized in time for the launch build such as tabs in File Explorer and Suggested Actions. This is what Microsoft is testing with Windows Insiders running build 22622 right now.

As always, until these plans are officially announced, the dates mentioned here could slip. But this is the current plan.

Try DISM /online /clean-up image /restorehealth and then run update

I downloaded MSU from the MS Catalogue and installed it that way. After that WU started to download it again but sorted itself out. No on 22621.521.

No blinking FE Tabs though - had to use vivetool to enable them.

Is this the correct version? 22621.382? I ask because I keep getting this also to update and it's keeps failing. It appears it's the last Cumulative for Release Preview.
My supported System One on RTM 22000 got the 22H2 update offered in Windows Update and successfully updated to 22621.521.

All my unsupported machines had to be updated from the ISO while offline, so were on 22621.382. None of then could update to the 22621.521 CU (KB5017321) through Windows Update (it may be failing because MS still have it marked as an insider update and have forgoten to change it fully to a release update?). All of them could install the offline update for 22621.521 downloaded from the Update Catalog.

It's got a chicken bone stuck in it's throat and just keeps retrying.

Get the MSU from here: KB5017321 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Build 22621.521 (22H2) - Sept. 20
All my unsupported devices got stuck like that after I upgraded with the ISO while offline. I then successfully installed the .msu on them all. They still showed KB5017321 pending download though, but after letting it have one more go at installing it Windows Update seemed to finally realise it wasn't required and it now says 'You're up to date' when I check for updates.
