Any brand new computer you may buy in the future should come with Windows 11 already pre-installed.

Machines that would be fully supported for Windows 11 first appeared as far back as 2018 as Intel's 8th generation CPU was launched in August 2017. TPM 2.0 goes back even further, it has been a Microsoft requirement that all new Windows PCs were TPM 2.0 capable since 2016.

Since July 28, 2016, all new device models, lines, or series (or if you're updating the hardware configuration of an existing model, line, or series with a major update, such as CPU, graphic cards) must implement and enable by default TPM 2.0 (details in section 3.7 of the Minimum hardware requirements page).     UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

I've always used AMD Radeon graphics, my AMD 7700 2 Gig card runs and still gets updates on LTSC. For me personally, I just use all my pc's for internet use, and small business, so graphics are not that concerning. Yes having 3 computers with Nvidia might be concerning. I'm also running LTSB on a couple pc's, and I bet my graphics card in them are all still running 2014 drivers, and they still perform well. I started out in the PC world back in 1981 with an IBM 8088, the very least of my concerns has been the latest graphics drivers, I've never had any issues with graphics. Now if you game, which I don't, I guess the latest and greatest drivers and cards are a must, but I would rather take that thousand or thousands of dollars and put it into a new motherboard and processor and ram.

I have installed Windows 11 Pro in both my main PC (see 2nd system specs) and my test laptop (1st system specs). So far all updates install without any issue, never check compatibility. I will only need to use a hack when upgrading to the new build 22H1 when it will be available. Also see other relevant posts. Regarding security, as I have said a million times before, you have the SAME level of security you have running Windows 10 64-bit with the same settings and apps. No more, no less. Regarding official Microsoft support, who cares! Just post in this forum and we will be glad to assist you!

To upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Pro or from Pro to higher, no compatibility check is done. All you need is change your Windows key and activate. All the extra features are already installed, the key just enables them.
