Windows 12 ! Already....

We were briefly discussing Canada, wives, properties, lifestyle basically, not women as such. Getting aquatinted. The threads about Win 12. Sure off topic but so are a lot of things.

Nice retro case, your pacman. It wouldnt hold a 16th of my pc though. My CPU cooler is probably bigger than that

Yeah I know, bigger isn’t always better. Still, I like pretty lights, can’t see them in an old case.

The case I'm currently using can actually be converted into a file-server stance, with space for 16 spinners (including the 2 bays that go at the bottom, which hold 2x each) as well as dual SSDs (and that is not counting the motherboard NVMe drives, depending upon the mobo used for such a config).

I'm not using in that configuration, but it's nice to know that I can relegate it to a storage server in the future when I finally decide to upgrade again (probably in another 5+ years lol).

The only thing about this case that is not great is the air flow ingress from the front, but I leave the door open when in use so there is direct airflow, and it's been perfectly fine, even when my chonky 3080 "Tie" is fully ramped up and putting out enough heat to rival a space heater.

From the C-64 to my current HAL 9000, it's been a wild ride. HAL 9000? Well, I had to call it something, and that just sounded about right.
It rules my life and I fully expect it to push me out an airlock some day. ROFLMAO
Speaking of cases... I have three of the "Pac Man"case.
Two are currently in use as PC #1 and PC #2, while the third one is in Refurbishment. (getting a paint job and face lift)
Any guesses why it's called the "Pac Man" case?
Besides the DVD drive, I can get 7 HD's in there. Even more SSD's. I stop adding drives when I run out of SATA ports on the motherboard. lol

Outrageous! A little levity leveneth the whole lump and liveneth it up a little. (Especially on a dead thread.) I suppose it could be moved to another category. Meh, it's been a crazy and lazy summer.

I love your "Pac Man" case and it's a good thing it's thousands of miles from me or I would so pimp that thing up with bells and whistles. Fan controllers with lights, a RAID cage or two, maybe an LED clock and a SATA power switch box. And if it can still run a floppy drive I'd be sure to add one in just for kicks. Who cares about a couple of seconds in a slower boot time? You know, something like this:

I don't even remember when I bought my first Pac Man case. It's been a while though. One extra I bought, sat in its cardboard box, under my work bench for at least six years. Age turned all the plastic Orange! That's the one I'm going to repaint. To the best of my knowledge, that case is no longer made. It has plenty of room for hard drives, even two bays where I can put a Multi-Card reader and a Floppy drive.

In the past, I've added extra lights and gadgets, but like so many other cheap Chinese gadgets, they all failed and wound up in the trash. So now I just KISS. (Keep it simple Stupid) I won't put anything inside my PC that doesn't positively affect its performance. NO lights, gadgets or other heat generating components.

I'm currently using the GPU ON-Board, to eliminate the power drain and HEAT of a plug in Video card. It works fine, and I have great Video. Likewise the sound and LAN.... all On-Board.
As I sit here, typing away, it's now +100 degrees F just outside my bedroom window. And it's 95 degrees F in here, where I sit, by my PC. No AC!
I don't even put the side panels on my PC, just to give it more breathing room. I'm glad this Gigabyte motherboard was built to be Heat and moisture Resistant. We seem to have a lot of both, this year.

I have no doubts that this PC will run Windows 12 as easily as it's run 7, 8.1, 10, and 11.
I currently have three HD's in this PC, running Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 11.

Atmosphere is everything. What pleases the user adds to the performance. If retro simple is your thing, thats great, I also love retro stuff.
My PC is huge, my office is huge, my desk is huge, my anger issues are massive.
I walk into my office and most of the time it is glowing pink with LED desk lights and computer fans. It soothes me, brings me back down. The colours change to my inner needs and change as i do.

Nice case, I have considered Fractal cases before but from memory they stop at Midi.

A word of advice. Don't buy cheap Chinese gadgets. Use expensive, high quality Chinese gadgets like raid cages from I-Star USA, and Kingwin. My Kingwin switch box has never failed on me and just looking at the work that went into it is a good indication of the quality of workmanship. Solid metal housings, quality caps, thick wires etc. Same as my I-Star USA raid cage.

I like my pretty lights too, but I'm not really a big RGB fan (although it's practically impossible these days to get away from this). I want all my LEDs to indicate a function: Is it reading? Is it writing? Is it idle? Is it working? Am I getting signal? That sort of thing. No sense in having these lights if they don't serve a purpose. I like discrete. Not loud and flashy and distracting. If I get a flashing light I want it to be a warning that something needs attention. (Unless of course it's just an indicator that data is being written or read on a drive.) My case comes with an RGB option but I have it set to everything blue. It also features a half panel window on the side which would be nice if my extended ATX board had the Q-Code logger nearer the top. Alas, it's on the bottom so now my external fan shroud is removed so I can read the logger between the blades of the huge fan on the side door.

As long as my bare fingers don't get too close to the fan blades it works just fine.

I also like static. Flashy is bound to put me into a coma. However with music it is probably fine. I can’t do that though, my ancient ROG board doesn’t have the headers. Indicators are important I agree, these days on an error, you could be watching that white circle spin for hours. It is nice to know that your hard drives for instance, are doing something.

When I built this rig I wasn't really looking to go all out with LEDs, but it ended up that way. RM has LEDs, the pump on the AIO cooler has an LED output screen, and the GPU has LEDs, not to mention the on-board OLED screen and multiple small LEDs on the mobo lol.

Next build the RAM will not had LEDs, for sure, that runs hot enough without them as it is.

Nice. I’m all out of likes, apparently.

My current case isn’t anything fancy but I find NZXT cases practical. The current case is 25.59" x 9.25" x 24.09" I want taller, I want longer and I certainly want deeper/wider.

Though I put it on a set of wheels with an interlocking frame to raise it off the ground, still - it's not a super giant behemoth of a tower lol. And it still has gobs of space.

Not enough space, I had to gut it a bit to add fans and more drives. Looking to get a CDRom drive bay for 6 Hotswap SSD’s. Should make a difference. Looking to get a bigger case. I mentioned, I’m saving for a new PC. I haven’t built one (for myself) since 2013/14. My goal is AU$10,000.

My Level 10 GT happens to be a full 23" from bottom to the highest point. I just measured it to make dead sure I wasn't having some senile memory of something that never was. (True, it's only this tall because of the steel handle riveted to the case but that's still part of the unit.) Is there a chance that your Level 10 shrunk from want of attention? Did you feed it steroids? (I heard this can happen.) Actually this is why I sort of wished I had one of those old days 4 footers. I could gut it out and mod it for my home server. Not that the Missuz would appreciate me dragging home a dead one from the recycling station.

To be fair tho, that Fractal Design case is beautiful. Fractal Design is well known for their aesthetics and durability. Definitely quality cases. The only issue I would have with that case would be airflow, which is doubly important when you're using a ton of drives. Then again, those old 4 footers did not offer a whole lot in the way of air flow either. Modding tyyyme!

Side by side. The Level 10 GT is also on a vinyl floor mat, the Define 7 XL is on carpet, so it loses at least a quarter inch.

Of course, I'm not measuring to the handle (and you might want to check that - the Level 10 GT was a lot more plastic than metal - and that 'handle' was part of it. Take the front face off if you hever have some downtime and look where the handle is attached). But the handle is not functional for me in any way, as I didn't make a habit of setting up LAN parties and thus need to cart it around - I basically only used hte handle when I took it outside to blow out the dust bunnies. :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, I leave the door open when in operation. It could just as easily be taken off, but I like being able to close it when not in use.

Nice, I’m all out of heart eyes and likes. I dig the temperature gauge on that cpu cooler. I’ve never had liquid cooling, looking forward to it. Nice setup. I’d be too excited to remember to take photos
