I can see as an adolescent you would need to verify age. But as a 68 year old adult I'm giving MS the middle finger. Also having that information relayed to all ather apps my information! Invasive and unacceptable. If it comes to that in Canada I'm thinking of moving to Zorin 18 and leave MS altogether. Seriously I'm working with it in VM Know. MS is out of hand. I've had enough of there BS.

[ Prompt with (Fn+)Shift+F10 - start ms-cxh:localonly ] still works and where I got retail licences never had any problems yet.

I'm in Australia and if this is implemented here then all I can say is MS has as much chance of getting a copy of my drivers licence or any other form of personal ID from me as Google had when they emailed me and asked for ID to prove I was 18 or over for my 2 Gmail accounts earlier this year.

And that's no chance whatsoever. Especially with all the hacking and data breaches going on these days. Google are supposed to delete ID's immediately after age verification but I've heard that doesn't happen sometimes.

My refusal to comply was supposed to have made my accounts "restricted" but I haven't noticed anything different with Gmail so far. The day that changes will be the day I say goodbye to Google for good.

Same applies to MS and Windows. I'm 69 years old, by the way.

This new law, if it goes through, will apply to EVERYTHING except Open Source Software. That means Linux is out of the water here. Valve also has some opinions towards this and will fight against it, I've heard.

So if Windows asks for my birthday, I am 100 years old, born 1/1/1926. So I pass all the age checks but the info is basically meaningless. So what is the point?
Unless I am forced to provide a birth certificate, Windows just has to take my word. So is Microsoft now going to prosecute those who lie about their actual age?
This whole thing just sounds like a meaningless feel good exercise to me.

The issue is not that they know your age, but the verification methods used. No way it is safe to provide them with a photo ID. It would become a heaven for data interception and identity theft.

In Finland we use ID verification through our banks (plus some other trusted methods)
