Unlike a website asking for a still photo, using a live webcam examining your face from various angles would be more difficult to trick, especially with serious AI examination that can tell fake moustache from real. Also, yes, they can provide an adult's ID, but what if they have to verify it is their by login to a government or bank website?

Just for comparison: At work we have an old Ubuntu 32-bit computer and I try to upgrade it as much as possible. The upgrade cannot complete. Yes I have redirected the repositories to the old version ones. Firefox cannot open any https site, it needs to upgrade the certificates. Standard VNC viewers such as GTK VNC viewer cannot connect to a Windows PC running RealVNC, I have to install RealVNC viewer... I use the Terminal too often like I am in the 80's using MS-DOS. You want more "user friendly" experiences? Try saying that Linux is user friendly again. Everyone considering to switch I advise him to TRY it for at least a month first or he will regret switching. Like I have said elsewhere, I prefer using Windows XP than mess with Linux. XP is far more user friendly plus you can easily find old compatible apps and install them, unlike old versions of Linux.

have you considered 32 bit FlatPak which even though it its no longer supported it is still maintained

I replaced Windows on my desktop on 5th November 2025 (it seemed an appropriate date). I didn't trial it first. I found it very user friendly, and rarely need to use terminal commands rather than GUI. I would replace Windows on my laptop, but I would have to use a different distro, and I would prefer to wait until Mint is compatible with ARM/Snapdragon processors. The only time I've actually needed Windows was to replace the firmware on a new USB solid state drive. To get back to the original issue, I don't personally care whether the OS needs my date of birth, but the reality is that they are only interested in whether I fit in particular age categories (all in less than 21 years old).

You probably haven't tried installing some application or games outside the Software library or doing some GUI customization or configuration not available on the Control Panel. I recently installed Zorin OS on a virtual machine to test it and I had to install Gnome Tools and Gnome extensions using the Terminal plus some other stuff only to set the Taskbar to dark mode while keeping the rest GUI in light mode and customize the default black color. Stuff that in Windows would take a few clicks to do. How "user friendly" is that. I am an advanced user and I don't like to be restricted only to already installed applications or those that are in the Software library. Also I want to customize my GUI and other settings without having to install additional components and resort to the Terminal all the time. Windows has "terminal" too (Command Prompt and PowerShell) but an average user never has to use it unlike Linux that without Terminal you cannot most advanced stuff.

I've never had much problem with using the command line, having started my computer experience with command-line only devices. It just hasn't been necessary in Linux any more than it is in Windows. Of course, I don't play games, and I can't be bothered by cosmetic changes to the desktop, which seems to be an obsession with both (some) Windows users on here, and Linux "ricing" addicts on Reddit. As a matter of fact, it was a lot easier setting up my network printer on Linux mint than it has proved to be on my ARM/Snapdragon laptop. It just worked immediately after installation of the Mint OS.

Speaking of printer, what did you install? Probably CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) or Guternprint. Yes, the printer works, but compare the features/options available in Linux with those available on Windows with the official OEM model-specific (not Universal PCL6) drivers. I like access to all my device features, not "it just works". I don't just blindly dislike Linux, I have tested it and judged for myself first.

Unfortunately, the OEM specific driver for my Brother multifunction device on Snapdragon did not exist - it may have appeared since. It told me to install the standard windows printing software instead. I have yet to find anything which I could do on the printer/scanner under the OEM driver on my desktop when it was running Windows 11, which I can't now do using CUPS. (My needs are relatively simple).

I have heard of a x86 compatibility layer to run apps and games, but I am afraid this doesn't apply to drivers... According to Google AI:

Brother does not offer a dedicated ARM64 universal printer driver, but you can use Windows built-in drivers or IPP/Mopria protocols to connect your printer.

Or just wait for Brother to eventually release a universal driver. You can also share the printer in Linux and try to connect from Windows. If you can, switch the printer to PS mode (PostScript), it should be easier to connect from Windows.
