Windows Defender offline worry

I thought I would run the WD offline scan while I had something to eat. When I returned to the pc the scan had not really started and the bit locker code was required to get any further. I had written the code in my book of odd pc info and put it in. It was rejected. Two more tries without luck, I went through the figures carefully to see if they matched, they did.
Fortunately, the code was also in my Microsoft account and what surprised me when I logged in on my laptop was that there were 2 sets of codes. One was for W10 and the second different code was for W11. I had enabled bitlocker when I was still on W10 and then upgraded to W11 via the inside program.

It may have generated a new code when you performed the upgrade to Windows 11. But that is interesting to note. I wonder if this is documented anywhere?

Probably a really big one. Really surprised that 1) Windows 11 changed it, and 2) you were never prompted to save the new key once it was changed.

This is super critical, and you're right - it could have ended really, really badly for you. But also really, really bad in that you were able to pretty easily recover it.

There might have been a relatively simple work round. The offline scan had not started and I might have been able to get things working by shutting down manually and then starting as normal. Now I know that I can access a valid code, I will try this and let you know the results.

I have just tried to run the offline scan. I was first asked for the normal two passwords which are for secure boot and bit locker and I thought that everything was going to work. Then the blue screen came up asking for the 48 number code for bit locker.
I manually shut down, waited a minute and the restart was normal, the 2 passwords and my pin.
So there is a way around this, but the offline scan should be avoided unless you have the long code and can be bothered to use it.

I hope that Microsoft will notice this, they probably already know about the problem.

Would be a good idea to make a Feedback report on it, I think, if it hasn't already been reported by someone else.
