NOT looking for a 3ʳᵈ party app but hopefully a mod or the likes that can allow Win 11 Explorer to have 2 windows side by side without opening a new window by itself.

I'm not a mod but I think I can answer this for you. If I read your question correctly, you want to have an explorer window open and then have explorer magically open another instance of explorer without you having to do anything. I don't think what you want is possible either natively or with a third party app. We've always had to have 2 instances of explorer (or any other app we might want to see 2 windows of) running to snap windows side by side. You can't snap a window if you don't have a window open. Keyboard shortcuts make it easy to open and snap explorer windows. Or use the mouse with snap layouts. Now, with multiple desktops, we can do even more with multiple windows open.

This is not accurate. What I meant was to be able to browse 2 separate directories within ONE instance of Explorer running. Hope this clarifies.

you want some sort of windows "modification" that will enable two-pane explorer, right?

am not aware of such without resorting to installing 3rd party apps.

yes 2-pane explorer, that's the right term. If 3ʳᵈ party, which is the most recommended alternative?

Directory Opus, and a few others are highly recommended...,

There's a bunch of good ones out there..., you'll probably hear about them from others...,

I use QTTabBar Explorer enhancement utility...

I use a couple free ones, Free Commander and Multi Commander, years ago bought Total Commander. They are quite similar and in some desired instances better than File Explorer. But it is possible to have 2 or more instances of File Explorer open at the same time, choices available on Win10 for how to show them, haven't had occasion yet to check my Win11 on a 14" Notebook to find that setting.

can allow Win 11 Explorer to have 2 windows side by side ...
Just run File explorer twice, select whatever folders you want and set the two windows side-by-side [see Berton's Taskbar context menu above for the side-by-side entry].

can allow Win 11 Explorer to have 2 windows side by side without opening a new window by itself.
What do you mean by this?
What exactly do you not want to do?
Do you think there is something wrong with, say, running File explorer twice, selecting whatever folders you want and setting the two windows side-by-side? If so, what?

All the best,
Denis

Just run File explorer twice,
Exactly. Or 3 or 4 times if the occasion calls for it.

From what I've read tabbed explorer is already available in some of the insider builds so release users should get it soon.
We can already snap 2 Edge tabs side by side.

I'd want 2 folders open in the same window.
Choosing folders..., opening them in separate instances..., then snapping properly to transfer, drag n drop or compare... pain in the ask!
