Windows Photo Viewer - can someone share their Start Menu shortcut file?

Just tried what you linked to and it still didn't bring back the Windows Photo Viewer on the start menu, it just allows either to use Windows Photo Viewer as the Default open program or open with.

Yes, it seems like that is one way to use it or the other way is right click on the image file and use Windows Photo Viewer from Open with.

There's little point in creating a shortcut to open Photo Viewer because, as others have shown, it's not designed to have a 'file open' of its own. Itt's designed to only be used as an 'open with' for file(s) you have selected.

The only thing can do with that empty photo viewer window is open File Explorer alongside it, find an image file, then click-and-drag it over to photo viewer and drop it into it to open the file.

Thanks, was that how it worked in Windows 7 as well? I mean I thought there was a reason it was on the start menu with Windows 7. I just tried the click and drag and it doesn't work either as it's just a red x when I try to drop it.

No, it was exactly the same in Windows 7, 8 and 10 - wasn't on the Start menu and was only available as the default file association or in 'Open with'..

The default Windows 10/11 "Photos" app works just fine for displaying jpeg and other images....

The large image is being displayed by Windows 11's "Photos" app. The smaller images are jpeg thumbnails shown in windows Explorer.

Have you ever compared XnView with IrfanView? I have IrfanView installed on my old desktop and laptop. I haven't installed any 3rd party photo viewer programs on my new desktop.

Yeah, a long time ago. To be honest, all I remember is that there was "something" I didn't like about IrfanView.
Somehow XnView fit my needs better.

Maybe IrfanView did too much. Mainly I use Paintshop Pro 7.04. I just use XnView for "handling" images.

Although IrfanView has a lot of extra features, I use it mainly as an image viewer, not for any sort of editing at all (except absolute simple stuff, like rotation and flipping).

I've tried a few others that say they are faster, but the ease of use with IV, plus the super fast image to image transitioning, even on 4K, have kept me on it versus other viewers.

I used IrfanView years ago as it was the only program that would print out a passport size photo in the right position, Might have been my lack of printing knowledge but it printed exactly what you saw in the preview.
