(I am trying to rule out any possible windows / component store errors.)

Worth a /storecomponent cleanup ?

Thanks.

Ooops............

Well, I decided to try and do another chkdsk c: /f /r /x on reboot - and same result as before.

The result is now that Windows Search is not working again.

I don't know how to pull up the log for when it tried to do it on reboot. I couldn't find it. I have tried looking in Event Viewer, but I can't find it, I don't know what I'm looking for.

I saw mentioned in some logs a TPM failure, or something.

You can check whether or not you need to scan a drive within windows at drive properties.

Go into file explorer then right-click your drive and select properties.

Disk check is on the tools tab.

Windows will report if you need to check the disk and you can still perform the check from there if you wish to.

Yes, I was doing that before.

That never reports any problems, this is why I thought I would try for a more comprehensive scan.

Oh well, somehow I've managed to re-enable Windows search for now.

(this is very difficult and confusing to understand for me)

After another rebuild, and DISM & SFC scans, another late night.....

See what happens in the morning, hopefully it will be enabled on boot-up.

Strange...............

So, I've done DISM and SFC scans.

The last rebuild only made it as far as 199,593 this time (as opposed to 591000 last time).

It's still not starting on reboot. In fact, the only way I can get it to start is by going into Task Manager, and finding Search where it shows 7 processes. It also has a leaf next to it. By selecting 'End Task', that's the only way I can get it to start, after going to Services.

I don't understand.

Current index is 199601. Don't know why it's not as much as before.

It is set to Automatic (delayed start). Occasionally have to end task from Task Manager.

It can take more than two minutes from boot-up.

Not sure what is going on ?

Patch Tuesday tonight anyway.

Just running another DISM and SFC.

Have changed from Automatic (delayed start) to Automatic.

See what happens there.

Query: is Automatic better than Automatic delayed for Windows Search ?

(sorry to ask, ignorant about these things).

Sometimes, it is starting straight away, sometimes a delay, sometimes I have to invoke the 'end task' from Task Manager.

Thank you for bearing with me so far, folks.

Also, would it be advisable or not to do a component store cleanup, even though there may be errors ?

Ran another DISM /scanhealth, and SFC /scannow, but nothing reported.

Once again, thanks, good people.

So, I've run Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool tonight, and it found no problems.

Again though, I've had to go into Task Manager and 'end task' (showing 7 processes), just to get it to start. I've noticed though there is a green leaf showing, meaning 'Efficiency' mode ? At the moment, startup type is still set to Automatic (as opposed to Automatic Delayed Start).
