Why do these monthly Windows Update Security patches takes so long to download?
I have an average download speed of about ~240 Mbps.

is there a setting that I can speed up process?

Thanks in advance

UPDATE >>> The download started to progress more rapidly after I restarted my laptop.

Would still like to know on why it takes forever to download these updates.

Good question. Also Office updates are extremely slow as well.

This is a wild-ass "you can try this" kind of comment. Although it’s inconceivable that anything on your side—barring local network/ISP problems—would increase speed to a Microsoft/Azure CDN, one of my software installations (which is really a downloader, probably fetching content from an Azure server) does get faster when I’m connected to Cloudflare WARP.

There are several combined reasons:

1. Security updates are occasionally consolidations of previous updates with maybe some updates.
2. Updates are a low priority and/or stopping depending on what you are doing at the time and your Windows update settings.
3. You can configure updates to an extent even in the Home version of Windows, options have been there for at least a decade.

Settings > Windows update > Advanced options > Go thru all the options you find a set them to your liking.
Then > Delivery Optimisations.

There is also Activity monitor > Download stats summary there.

The stats very roughly correspond with your options set in Download options.

"speeds up after a restart", the answer is above in 2. and 3.

In addition to those there should be some options in your Router/Internet Gateway, have a look.
