Android Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) is being deprecated beginning March 5, 2025



 Microsoft Learn:

Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android™️ (WSA). As a result, the Amazon Appstore on Windows and all applications and games dependent on WSA will no longer be supported beginning March 5, 2025. Until then, technical support will remain available to customers.

Customers that have installed the Amazon Appstore or Android apps prior to March 5, 2024, will continue to have access to those apps through the deprecation date of March 5, 2025. Please reach out to our support team for further questions at support.microsoft.com. We are grateful for the support of our developer community and remain committed to listening to feedback as we evolve experiences.

Because Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 will no longer be supported after March 5, 2025. Amazon and Microsoft are partnering to create a smooth end of support experience for developers and customers of Amazon Appstore on Windows 11. Developers will no longer be able to submit net new apps targeting Windows 11 after March 5, 2024, but developers with an existing app can continue to submit app updates until Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 is fully discontinued.

Starting on March 6, 2024, Windows 11 customers will not be able to search for Amazon Appstore or associated apps from the Microsoft Store. Customers may continue using Amazon Appstore apps that they previously installed and will still be able to receive app updates.

I doubt that...but is a possibility...WSA is just WSL with Android image purpose built to work on Windows as a WSL/WSA image...
As long as you have Virtualization support in your hardware and it is enabled in BIOS, I see no reason why WSA would not work...

Well rubbish is a very subjective term.

You must have been exported un-Finnished products LOL.

The UK versions are good quaility e.g. I have dropped them many times. I have never had any complaints about cost per benefit ratio.

Do you use your phones for more than an occasional photo, video viewing, web browsing and phone calls? I'm a mobile power user and even some mid-range phones are rubbish but less so than the low-end ones. The problem is the garbage internals you get for the price, not that if they can handle a few drops.

I love the term power user which means nothing at all. No disrespect but that means nothing more than doing "stuff".

So as I said, rubbish is subjective.

In your case, it may have meaning but I bet far more people just use their phones for calls, videos, email, texting, surfing rather than doing unspecified "stuff".

JFYI, I have about 250 applications on my mobile phone which I use for professional work. Some applications don't even exist on Windows.

Also when it comes to Android gaming...if you're into that...them games run like garbage on cheaper phones, but run well on a high-end phone and fly in an emulator. Also same thing there, some games don't exist anywhere else than on mobile (Android/iOS)

To try and get this back on track. The idea of getting an Android phone is to use for the Windows App part of "Link to Windows"

For this, I am not interested in gaming.

Main apps would be
Authenticator
Social media (BlyeSky, Mastodon etc)
AirMessage (for Text Messaging with iMessage)

This would be just a second phone. Not really used for anything but. This.
Its starting to make me think that Bluestacks might be a better option. Or another emulator.

I actually like certain apps e.g. bus timetable apps which are better and more focussed in android rather than in Windows versions

I might miss a Windows Subsystem for Android, but I can't say the same for the one that's going away, the Windows Subsystem for Amazon. I'm surprised it wasn't derided by that name all along.

For Apple device support, Link to Windows is quite limited in what you can do. I think that is more an Apple putting "logs in the the cogs" issue than a Microsoft technical issue. This may change in the furure though.

People with iPhones as daily drivers might be more up to date with the progress. I've only tried it a few times and there was not much you could do.

It's not patronizing...we are 6 members in our family. During the time I've been using 1 high-end phone to EOL the rest of the family each has had to swap theirs several times because the phones aren't working properly anymore even after a full reset. It's not something I'm making up but a pure fact.

There's a reason why certain models cost a lot (while they could be cheaper as top of the line is overpriced) compared to others. The build quality and component quality is on a completely different level.
