Windows Update Intel 770 failure 2GB leftover ?

I allowed Windows Update to attempt an install of an Intel 770 driver. It came back with a failure message and it appears I lost 2GB of drive space. I cleaned out the drive completely in temp files and restore etc. and that's still the case.

Does anyone know where that 2GB might be ? I didnt run anything els ein the interim ...

We would have no way of knowing how/or if the driver update failure affected your drive space or not. If you feel it did, , just as with 3rd party graphics like AMD or Nvidea, DDU can be used in safe mode to cleanly remove Intel graphics and the Intel graphics app. You can then install new graphics drivers from your OEM, mobo manufacturer, or directly from Intel.

I downloaded the uninstaller which removed all Intel drivers and ran Windows update. It installed a dozen other Intel files along with a NET framework file and a cumulative Windows 1 update. I wound up regaining all the lost space and getting the new driver. Seems Intel drivers don't delete prior versions and they aren't readily available to uninstall unless you run the uninstaller.

Many here do not let WU handle their drivers. (me for one) as it can and does sometimes install older drivers. Additionally, I certainly do not trust WU to control my bios updates. IMO it is a more preferable option to disable include drivers with windows update, and manage one's own drivers from the OEM or mobo manufacturer site OR use the OEM application designed to keep the device's drivers up to date which is easiest for most people. In the case of HP that's the HP Support Assistant application.

And as soon as I regained the space Windows Upgrade did an install and I lost it all. And it seems to take a bit of time for that space to come back for some reason.

Its a 500GB NVME. I started building PC's about 1988 from scratch when a 20MB drive was $200 and I was always concerned about losing space. Its not an issue now but my interest in MS grabbing ridiculous amounts of space has endured.
