Windows Update message "Your version of Windows has reached the end of service"

My PC, a Dell Vostro 3520 running Windows 11 Pro, is 18 months old and updates itself with Windows Settings. I also regularly check to make sure I’m up to date.

In Settings/Windows Update, I’m getting a message saying:

“Get the newer version of Windows to stay up to date. Your version of Windows has reached the end of service.”

The “Learn more” link in Settings doesn’t really help. It’s too complicated, and seems aimed at Windows 10. Any help will be gladly received. Thanks

I think I'm on 23H2. My last update was 2024-11 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5045935).

If you’re positive you’re on 23H2, then that message would be incorrect. 23H2 end of service isn’t until late 2025.
winver would make it official.

I see the error message when I go to Settings/Windows Update. It shows at the top of the page with a red exclamation mark.

There is a long thread over at the MS Forums, looks like it is a bug. Many users have struck this problem. On page two in a post from a MS Independent Advisor it is caused by KB5046633 (The CU released today).

I have this CU on my laptop but am one of the lucky ones and am not affected.

Mike, by the looks of the thread that Marcus has posted, you may have to wait. Also, I don’t think they’re releasing a patch in December so you may have to wait til Jan. I am really not sure.

Tip: Don't use ver in a Command Prompt window, it shows Windows 10 and might see it in other places.

One of the users in that Microsoft thread resolved the issue by logging off all users.

I had the same issue. I have 23H2. The update occurred while two users of the PC were logged on. When 2nd user (aka me) logged on, I got the end of service message. I logged user 1 off, then logged me off. Then did a restart. The message went away, and Windows Update now shows that I am up to date.
