WinPE wait time is 5 secs, I want 0 secs

Hi,

recently I added an option to my WinPE-environment and now it comes up at every boot. I set it to continue booting Win11 after five seconds, but I want to skip WinPE altogether (and only start that up when I need it). This probably is easy if you know how to, but O can’t seem to find that out.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, kind regards, Kan

Log onto Windows.

Run msconfig

Go to the Boot tab.

Change the timeout to zero.

Hi hsehstedt, thanks a bunch! Inwent into msconfig and managed to set it to a minimum of 3 secs (2 down and counting 😁). 3 is better than 5, but would there be (another) way to get this done? 🙏

Admin command prompt.

bcdedit /timeout <time>

Example: bcdedit /timeout 30

So you want: bcdedit /timeout 0

Sorry about that. Forgot that the GUI does not let you set a timeout f zero.

Open an elevated command prompt and run this command:

bcdedit /timeout 0

That should work. Let me know if you still have any difficulties.

You can set it to less than 3 seconds from GUI.

Go to advanced system settings in System About, select advanced tab, start-up and recovery.

If you set it to 2 seconds, you have enough time to select option (assuming you are quick). I have found 1 second is just too fast to react for an old codger like me lol.

You can even set time to 0 and pc will boot to default option without pressing anything.

However bear in mind, if default option (Window) is corrupted, you cannot get to menu below to change time from 0 i.e. a setting of 0 rather defeats point of displaying the winpe option really. Of course, you can also boot from a usb drive with the Winpe mode.

True but setting to zero just hides entry. If you uncheck it, entry gets lost if I recall correctly (could be wrong here),

In any case, as I said, setting to zero makes no sense as one risks not being able to activate the winpe option if Windows is not working properly.

Of course, one should always have a winpe usb drive in case hard drive fails or is so badly corrupted, the boot entry method cannot be accessed.

Open Run... dialog box and type in SystemPropertiesAdvanced

When SystemPropertiesAdvanced opens, click Startup and Recovery and then Settings. You can change your Timeout value.

You can have the same result by typing in Run... dialog box Sysdm.cpl -> Advanced tab -> Startup and Recovery (Settings)

Hope this gives you another options to choose from.
