Word issue

MS Word 2024 (Standalone) is crashing and hanging - I'm getting this message - not quite sure what this pdfmaker is it is referring to and not sure whether to click yes or no

I assume it's ok to click yes.

I would risk it since it already won't work as is. If worse comes to worst you can always try Adobe. I'm guessing there's an update that will fix the issue though.

Right click on your start button and select run, in the run dialog box type winword /safe then enter, once word has opened File -> options -> add-ins then disable the pdf make add-in

Thank you. Well I clicked yes and it made no difference. So I just followed your instructions above @z3r010 and I'm at the page "View and Manage Microsoft Add-ins" with the Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin showing - but can't see any way to disable it. It';s listed at the bottom under "Manage" with Go next to it ............

So I clicked Go - selected remove. It came up with you need to be an administrator (which I am). That ticked it rather than removing it - then Ok. See what happens now ............ But it was still showing only ticked before I hit ok.

No that didn't work so I've repeated your steps again and it's still there. It says it's at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\PDFMaker\ COM Add-in.

Wondering if I should just go into program files and delete it? I don't have Acrobat Pro, just standard, but I did have a couple of trials of Pro not so long ago.

Thanks - presumably that stops it loading at start up? Tried that and no difference. Before I had it ticked and selected remove and it still didn't do anything.

What if I just uninstall Adobe completely? And then reinstall?

That may work, when you reinstall see if there is a custom option and tell it not to add anything to word.

Would it break anything if I just deleted this folder PDFMaker within Acrobat DC in Program Files? I'm wondering where it came from - presumably nothing to do with Adobe Creative Cloud and just Acrobat?

Thanks. Ok did that and restarted. Word seems to be ok now, but not sure if it was the restarting or the renaming that did it

Maybe I should have tried restarting first.

Adobe Acrobat shows as "New" in my programs list so I guess it did an update this afternoon that caused this.

Looks like someone else having the same issue .......... I think renaming seems to have worked better than all the solutions suggested by Adobe. Fingers crossed. I will be uninstalling Creative Cloud fairly soon anyway as I'm not renewing photoshop - too expensive and only used a few times a year and I'll be glad to get rid of Adobe Creative Cloud off the computer. Hopefully Acrobat will behave.
