Solved Worth adding AMD HD5830 to an AMD Ryzen 5 2400G system?

I have an older PC that is currently using the AMD Ryzen 5 2400G onboard graphics. It has 8 GB of memory and a 500GB SSD. It's used for basic games, surfing the web and watching YouTube videos mostly.

I also have an AMD HD 5830 video card that's not in use.

Is it worth installing this video card into this system?

This would be on a version 23H2 build 22631.4249 Windows 11 system.

For light duty stuff, you should be ok with that GPU. The only problem that you are going to have is getting drivers for the card. I would suggest that you look on the AMD website and check their "Legacy" offerings. I recently had to do that with a Radeon 6450 that I am using in a spare Win 10 machine. The drivers went in fine and they work, but I did have a little trouble finding them until I checked the Legacy offerings.

That's a very old graphics card (2010). ATI Radeon HD 5830 Specs

While many sneer at Userbenchmarks, they suggest that the iGPU in the 2400G is slightly superior to the HD 5830.

AMD doesn't appear to offer drivers for the 5830 for Windows 11. Maybe the Windows 10 X64 drivers would work.

The majority of Windows 11 drivers are the same as those in Windows 10, especially the GPU drivers.

If they are proper Windows 10 drivers, sure.

I haven't checked the details, but the potential issue is that some Windows versions can use drivers from prior versions. Like Windows 7 could use XDDM (XP) drivers, but Windows 8 could not.

A simple NO, unless you wanna use both at the same time for some reason. Also as mentioned, you will have driver compatibility issues for sure.

RX Vega 11 on your Ryzen 2400G is as fast and even a bit faster than the HD5830 card. Also supports much newer graphics stacks
