Worth Upgrading To 11?

@ThrashZone good comments, I was/am a big fan of 10 and in my mind it was near perfect. 11 is just the same now I sorted the context menus and taskbar. I guess that when 11 is near perfect MS will release Windows 12 :lmao:

Yup.. snappy is such a subjective thing.. it's fast but faster than 10? I doubt it. As for the start menu.. it's not everyone's cup of tea to say the least. I kind of like it but then I just make do.

Driver support for 11 is sketchy at best.. so far my drivers are working just fine even the ones from Nivida.
In the end of the day, it is what it is. Should people upgrade? Maybe.. 10 is solid so there's no real reason to go to 11

10 is a great OS IMO. While 11 is new and still in development I like it.

When I speak for myself it is always good for the excitement to install a new OS on my computer. The adrenalin you get with using and experimenting with new stuff. I played long enough with W10. So W11 was more than welcome. Ofcourse I have some minor glitches but those are not very annoying.

Sometimes Files Explorer hang and I need to kill it via Task manager or Office 356 keeps losing focus and need to restart the PC. So what.

For the rest W11 looks good, the changes they made at Microsoft are not so bad. The only thing I changed back is the context menu. And I run 3th party tools as RoundedTB, TranslucentTB and ElevenClock to make the UI more my taste.

So for now I am happy with W11 on my unsupported Omen laptop.

Yeah it's just new and people are just like new stuff

Frankly I always got a chuckle out of all the people rushing into installing build updates so same goes and face it 11 is just another build update 21H2

Well, if users didn't continually rush to install new OS builds there would be a lot less for forum members to talk/complain about; and the "add-on" developer industry, as well as your chuckle meter, would be in danger of redundancy. Windows Insiders, of course, represent the most extreme of early adopters. Then, you only have to look at the immediate demand levels whenever a new X-Box/Playstation/iPhone/iPad etc. announcement is made even if they really do very little more than the previous version was capable of.

As far as the "Why Windows 11?" question, as opposed to solely continuing with "Windows 10", the answer seems obvious: Whether or not users believe the reasoning behind the changes, the Microsoft machine is certainly convinced that the future development of Windows security measures requires (or will require) the new enhanced minimum hardware and firmware spec, with a requirement that more system protection features are enabled by default; and it would have made little, if any, sense to suddenly impose these requirements, without warning, for the new builds of an existing Windows 10 series. Better to differentiate between the two supported streams by a different Version number.; and, of course, obvious change makes for more marketing impact.

The best recommendation for or against upgrading is the one you make yourself, which you can't do unless you test it.
Different hardware, installed software and the many different ways people use a PC, is also a factor to be considered. Like Win10 and all versions of Windows beforehand it won't suit everyone.
Personally I think learning new things keeps ones brain active and keeps you up to date with changes be they good or not so good, that doesn't mean I dump the old, got enough PCs to continue to use 10 as well.

For me the answer to should people upgrade is only if they want to. Win 10 is an excellent OS and is going to be supported for a few more years. I upgraded because I wanted to. I also have to admit that I enjoy running the latest versions of Windows. That is why I became an Insider. On my new desktop I'm running the Beta Build as my main OS and the Dev Build in a VM. I'm giving serious thought about upgrading my Beta Build to the Dev Build.

The reason I upgraded is because I have compatible hardware and I want to make use of the latest OS. If I didn't have compatible hardware there's no way I would have upgraded to 11. Since 10 is so good why bother doing it?

My old 6th gen i7 Acer laptop ran Win 11 without any problems. My original plan was to just test Win 11 on it then roll back to Win 10. I finally gave in to temptation and bought a new HP laptop so I could run Win 11 without worrying about compatibility problems. I was going to give it to my son but he didn't want a laptop. We found out that my wife's niece was thinking about buying a laptop so we gave it to her with a fresh install of Win 10. I have installed Win 11 on all of my computers including my wife's laptop. I'm now thinking about upgrading from the Beta channel to the Dev channel on my new desktop. I switched from the Dev channel just before the Dev channel and Beta channel split.

I always make a Macrium image before doing any upgrades. That way there is no time limit.

Just make a shortcut and pin it to the taskbar.
The shortcut command is C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /s /f /hybrid /t 00
The icon is available in the file %SystemRoot%\System32\SHELL32.dll
The only required shutdown option is /s. Check out the others in a command window and help for shutdown.
