x13 gen 1:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10310U CPU @ 1.70GHz (2.21 GHz)

RAM: 16 GB

Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB)

L14 gen 1:

AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U with Radeon Graphics (2.10 GHz)

RAM: 16 GB

AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (496 MB)

I use Firefox with lots of tabs, including Gemini and Google Ai Studio for various tasks. I also like to have Youtube playing in t background.

I primarily use the x13 because of it's size, however, I feel the CPU is always being choked, temps around 54C, yes, I repasted it and cleaned the fans.
So my normal use renders temps between 54c-85c with cpu % 75%+.

Now, if you'd choose between the two, which one would you keep?

54 degrees is normal. I am an Intel fan, so I vote for Intel. If you enable the hidden Ultimate Performance power plan you can force the CPU to always be at 2.2GHz and have better performance. Even without it, Intel is known to by faster than AMD in single-core processing. Only when apps actually use more than 3-4 cores AMD is faster. Before you ask, no, not all games use many cores. Most office and creativity applications also don't use many cores. That makes Intel faster in most cases. If you want to unhide the Ultimate Performance plan run the following command in an Administrator command prompt or Powershell:

powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

Intel all the way for me. I upgraded from AMD and what a difference in benchmarks.

I don't have a particular bias against AMD, but I've used mostly Intel since my 8080 days, and I'm too old to change. :lmao:

Yes AMD has many more cores than needed. I bet over half of them are idle in most applications/games. Taking into account that the speed is divided among the cores, you can see why AMD has not good performance in single-core operations. So AMD might be cheaper than Intel, but once again you get what you pay for.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'speed is divided by the cores'. AMD and intel have very similar IPC numbers. Where intel still has somewhat of a lead is in processor speed or what frequency the processor runs at.

But then intel's 4 cores and gpu use is up to 75%+ by just using Gemini. Fan is at full speed and cpu clock capped at 2.21 ghz (no boost).
