Funny, I've been noticing the same thing for a while now, updates getting bigger & taking longer to d/l.....

As Michael notes, almost 6,000 new folders and over 20,000 new files were added over that stretch of less than two years.

Even using the Media Creation Tool to download the latest ISO doesn't help. That file is still a humongous 6.8 GB, nearly twice the size of the original Windows 10 release.

I used to read Ed a lot along with Mary Jo Foley. At least Mary wasn't as big of an Microsoft fanbui as Ed was. At least, she didn't show it, anyway.

ZDNET? Jeez, I didn't even know they were still around (until I just looked them up just now) and stopped reading them around the time Windows 10 came out and they were making beaucoup excuses for it. I did remember Ed getting pretty bashed about in the responses he got in his thread topics. He thought we would all be as 'overjoyed' as he was over all the new 'cool' features that were being introduced. Instead he got bashed for ignoring all the new telemetry that came with it. and later making excuses for it. It was around about the same time I started getting cynical about Microsoft.

Well good luck to Ed and his new book. It'll probably be hideously obsolete by the time he releases it.

And yes, download size is getting ridiculous and something should be done about it. Big time.

I had lunch with Mary Jo when she was at an Atlanta conference a few years ago. She was delightful.

I've always known Ed Bott to be honest and accurate.
