Insider KB5127842 Windows 11 Insider Experimental (26H2) build 26340.9750 - Oct. 16

UPDATE 10/23:

 Microsoft Support:

Changes and improvements gradually being rolled out

[Gaming]

  • We're introducing a refreshed Gaming Task View experience in XBOX mode, featuring a new navigation bar that provides quick access to Exit to Desktop and Power Options. This update makes key system actions easier to access while gaming.

Screenshot that shows Gaming Task View showing the new navigation bar with Exit to Desktop and Power options.
Gaming Task View showing the new navigation bar with Exit to Desktop and Power options.

[Web sign-in]

  • Web sign-in now works on Microsoft Entra hybrid joined devices. Before this update, it was only available on Microsoft Entra joined devices. You can sign in to Windows at the lock screen with a passwordless credential: a FIDO2 security key, a passkey on your phone, or a Temporary Access Pass (TAP). You don't need a password. Once you're signed in, Windows gets a Kerberos ticket, so on-premises file shares and internal sites keep working. For more information, see Use web sign-in to enable passwordless sign-in in Windows.

[Windows Hello]

  • Windows Hello facial recognition can temporarily brighten your screen to help you sign in when you're in a dark or dimly lit room.
  • To turn on this feature, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Facial recognition (Windows Hello) and turn on Automatically adjust screen brightness during face recognition.

[File Explorer]

  • Improved responsiveness of folder views so they update and sort correctly when files and folders are added or renamed.

[Windows Search]

  • Addressed underlying issues that could cause search to appear missing or stop working after the previous update, including if you rapidly clicked the search icon repeatedly.

[Run]

For Insiders with the new Run dialog enabled:
  • Improved the window position when using an Arabic or Hebrew display language.
  • Improved performance of the Run dialog when navigating to very large folders.
  • Fixed an issue where your text might unexpectedly disappear if you started typing too quickly after opening Run.
  • Made a few other small visual fixes and refinements.

[Other]

  • Improved shutdown reliability, reducing the chance of a hang on shutdown in certain cases.
  • The dialog for certain system messages, like low battery and permissions, should use the expected modern design again.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel

  • Updates are based on Windows 11, version 26H2 via an enablement package (Build 26340.9750).
  • Many features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time. We monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • The desktop watermark shown at the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for Windows Insider pre-release builds.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds might never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features might change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they're ready.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders might not be fully localized, and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
  • Check out Flight Hub for a complete look at what build is in which Insider channel.

I had to roll back the laptop to build 26340.9616. Build 26340.9750 caused it to always have a blank screen after sign in.
I had similar problems--the upgrade ate my Windows account password & my pin!--and that's a real pain. Restoring 9616 from a day earlier was my only remedy, but it worked flawlessly, thankfully. I haven't seen a build cause this much annoyance in years. I may attempt it again, in a few days, don't know.

Great New system. Exceeds my expectations by quite a bit, btw. I love the USB G8 SoundBlaster, it's quite an improvement over the G6!

I tried it twice via Windows Update, and both times it went black after sign in. Had to Ctrl+Alt+Del to Shift + Restart to WinRE from Power menu to roll back.

This is weird. That $xxxxx name still shows up on the Access Denied context menu,
Looks that they only fixed the 1st part of the problem. 😖😂🤷‍♂️

Edit:
I just verified the same problem on R.P. Build 26300.9808 and Public Build 26300.9711. 😂

With all this gaming rig I am not a gamer!
I tried it twice via Windows Update, and both times it went black after sign in. Had to Ctrl+Alt+Del to Shift + Restart to WinRE from Power menu to roll back.
Ditto!...;) After I was able to get back into 9616, finally, as 9750 nuked my passwords and my PIN, and refused to allow me to create new ones(!), I did another Macrium Reflect C:\ backup, and I did a couple of system restore points just to make sure I was covered---and so I stupidly decided to try it again...dummy me...;) I thought it might be a quirk, maybe, because I really haven't experienced as botched an update build as this one in years! I can't remember the last event like this--except that it was several years ago--back long before cumulative updates, when there were only whole-build ISO installs. Even through my Microsoft account, accessed through my wife's machine--we both share the same account, with different machines--I could not change *anything* because the darn flaws in 9750 were so profound that I could not change my password or Pin, again! So I got the double whammy this build...;) It's not a lot of fun when the OS build inexplicably screws you, but good, and then you arrogantly decide you didn't have enough fun the first time, so you do it again!

This time, though, when I went out to "advance settings"--guess what, my carefully provisioned system restore files were no longer there....!>>>>>:):):) I felt like Charleton Heston in Planet of the Apes, "It's a mad house, a mad house!!!" So the second time it nailed me, 9750 clobbered all routes of escape and restoration! There remained one hole this time that the build abomination did not destroy, as I discovered I could log onto Safe Mode with my old password--which suddenly worked for safe mode--but not anything else! From there I ran Macrium Reflect X and restored 9616 from the backup I had made before I decided to start banging my head on a telephone pole once again.

Anyway, I'm glad you also apparently survived...;) So we've got that going for us, anyway. I have now paused updates until the 30th or so. I wonder what it was in my hardware or software combination that encouraged so many major, show-stopper bugs! Glad to see that most people apparently upgraded without apparent issues, anyway. Go figure.

Great New system. Exceeds my expectations by quite a bit, btw. I love the USB G8 SoundBlaster, it's quite an improvement over the G6!
After logging in, the desktop won't load; just a black screen. I tried twice; I had to go to Advanced at boot and remove the last quality update.

When I went to my Microsoft Account to get their help in logging in to my account, it was a major disappointment. I was locked out of my account--stuck on the lock screen--and my Microsoft account "help" was offering to send me a code via my email address--which of course I could not access since I couldn't log on to my account past the lock screen so that I could run the browser and bring up the email. So I went with the text message code...which appeared to work but then simply didn't. Half the time it was telling me it was texting me a code, my phone never rang--but the number I put in was correct. When I did manage to get the code via a text, then it was of no help whatsoever in logging into the build! I couldn't even get into the build so that I could restore the previous build! Microsoft account help isn't much these days--the automated help responses were wholly insufficient and a waste of time.

I strongly advise everyone not to rely on Microsoft's "help" responses these days, which all assume that you can log onto your account--and if you cannot, they cannot help you to log into your account! A few years ago, if you had trouble like this, a human using RI (real intelligence) could solve the problem and get you into your account quickly! That isn't an option anymore, apparently. Protect yourself--use Macrium Reflect or some other similar program so that if a build fails in some capacity, you won't be locked out like I was. Haven't seen such a destructive build in many years!
