USB 2.5Gig Adapter to Arris XB7 gateway

Windows Update been stuck for hours on Downloading stage of Defender Definition update

Should i discontinue use of this USB 2.5 Gig Adapter? or should i restart system in a bit, and try again on the Definition update?

Asking here since i trust you all, and asking in Comcast forum i wasn't sure on as previously they said we do recommend 2.5 Gig Adapter for Gigabit Plans & higher

Never had issue like this, not once til now lol

WD updates are very small. If it's been stuck for hours, I would restart and try again. Make sure your internet is functional.

If it still fails, run the troubleshooter.
settings>system>troubleshoot>other troubleshooters>windows update>run

If that doesn't show to fix anything reset WU.

How was /is your connection with that adapter ? stable
Or was it better without the adapter?
How about speed, the same with both or not?

Speed a little bit more on download, but might've been a little more laggy in games not entirely sure on that part

other downloads and network transfers was fast though

Though doesn't seem too bad with the 2.5 Gig USB Ethernet adapter if i just solve this Windows update issue, might keep using but will see

With Onboard Lan i get 935-940Mbps, and 23.20 for Upload typically

No, your Ping is fast enough for online gaming. Shouldn't have problems there.
Download is good as well. Was this with the adapter?
Check the network controller to see which one you have (Device Manager)

Windows Update issued fixed with Windows Update Reset!

Checks in Device Manager one moment

Wifi/Bluetooth card used as backup connection if Ethernet cord dies & mostly for Bluetooth otherwise lol

Yes that Speed test was with the USB 2.5Gig Ethernet Adapter

Realtek Gbe Family controller is Built in Lan Controller
Realtek USB 2.5Gbe is the 2.5Gig adapter

Since Windows Update all fixed now
Think Gonna stick with using this USB 2.5Gig Adapter after all, maybe it wasn't the cause of the issue with Windows Update, but that is all fixed, SFC scan now all clean as well ran that for good measure after restart after resetting Windows update

You already have a 2.5 network card, don't see the purpose of having a dongle with the same .
If speed is close and ping stays about the same I wonder if you really need the extra accessory.
For online gaming usually anything under 20ms PING is acceptable. 20 being the least desirable.

i got speed test with the On Board Lan as well before i hooked up adapter

Taken Same Day via Browser just prior to hooking up USB 2.5 Gig adapter that morning
But if i don't need it, i can get it uninstalled in morning--(probably gonna sleep soon here tonight) but i'll take care of it asap in morning

Will free up a 2nd Rear USB 3.2 Gen 1 Port lol for another device if truly not needed lol

Right now i got UPS battery backup plugged into 1 port
USB 3.2 Gen 1 Hub With 7 Ports for other devices
Logitech Pro X Headset
and then USB 2.5Gig Ethernet Adapter in port next to Headset

Why Does this keep happening?

After i Reset Windows Update other night was fine for like 1 day, today i go check again, and manually run update check, it should've just downloaded and installed, instead stuck @ Downloading yet again

((maybe i should discontinue use of this USB 2.5Gig Adapter after all))

Edit: Restarted Desktop again, then it downloaded, and installed like its suppose to
(could the USB Adapter fallen asleep? well if this issue continues then might just give up the OverProvisioned Download speed and just settle for truly stable connection with OnBoard 1gig Lan Port if it comes to it)

Hi @bikemanI7 !
You do have a RJ45 socket for a CAT 5/6/7 cable right?
Can you show us (in Device Manager) the network adapter.
I have a Killer 2.5 network adapter but, my connection from the ISP
is 1GB. I don't know what is the use of having a 2.5 GB dongle to help with
the speed if you are restricted to a say 1GB connection from the ISP.

As for the updates, Please do not install Any preview updates. You're only looking for trouble.
Turn Off the get the latest and greatest slider just under the Check for Updates. You will still
be offered those updates but, you would have to click on the Download and Install button.
Resist the temptation to do so. Too many members are having problems with this month's
updates already. No need to add you to the list.

I typically install All Preview updates, and such, but dually noted on future for those, as i'm type of person that hates not having all updates in, sorta drives me nuts haha knowing there is one available lol



And yeah guess really don't need per say the USB 2.5Gig adapter after all, as yes only get 1Gig From ISP

Yes i do have Cat6a cable, and OnBoard 1gig Lan Socket on motherboard

(can work on uninstalling 2.5Gig Adapter either later tonight or early Tomorrow Morning when Other Family member not using Network, as most likely have to restart Comcast gateway to swap the cable back to 1Gig Port on that device

Yes i do have Cat6a cable, and OnBoard 1gig Lan Socket on motherboard

(can work on uninstalling 2.5Gig Adapter either later tonight or early Tomorrow Morning when Other Family member not using Network, as most likely have to restart Comcast gateway to swap the cable back to 1Gig Port on that device

Should i go back to Original Driver that Gigabyte Released October 6th 2021 for Windows 11 and then see how SecondLife performs?

((Mainly just want SecondLife issue solved, and all game issues solved))
