3rd Party tool to check for Win 11 compatibility - GitHub

My results from the latest tool. And Secure Boot is enabled.

Under the Secure Boot heading... look for a choice between Other OS or Windows UEFI. Choose the UEFI one.

BUT... you should still be passing the MS PC Health Checker

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm assuming, that choosing the circled option will take care of the Secure Boot in the GitHub tool.
Well... I did try it... nothing bad happened. But at the time I didn't have the GitHub tool.

This is from MY motherboard manual. I assume you will have something similar.
Just checked... in your manual... you have the same BIOS setting.

Brb... I'll do mine.

Just set my Secure Boot to "Windows UEFI" and it cleared up the issue in the GitHub tool...

And... I do have an MBR partition...so it'll never show as a GPT partition.
But even with MBR partition, it passes the MS tool.

SUMMARY:

1. Get both the MS and the GitHub tools, here: Windows 11 Compatibility Tools
2. Run both tools, and see what your status is.
3. If Secure Boot or TPM has a RED X, head to the BIOS.
4. Enable Secure Boot and under the Secure Boot heading, choose Windows UEFI, rather than Other OS.
5. Then look for your TPM settings. There are a few kinds...

a. Firmware TPM
b. Discrete TPM (aka hardware TPM)
c. Some motherboards will have both.
d. On some boards the TPM setting will be on the Advanced tab in the BIOS.
e. It will be called something like AMD CPU fTPM, or it may be under Advanced > PCH-FW Configuration.

6. Enable the Firmware TPM, or the Discrete (hardware TPM [usually requires a TPM module])
7. IF you need a TPM Module read this: What to know when buying TPM Module

8. Now that you've taken care of Secure Boot and the TPM configuration... Save and Exit the BIOS.
9. Run both the MS Tool and the GitHub Tool again.

10.. If you don't pass the test in the MS Tool, the GitHub Tool may help you locate the problem.

Help with passing the Windows 11 Compatibility Checks

Latest WhyNotWin11 results below. I'm not changing the Ryzen 7 1700 but willing to try to fix Secure Boot. Below are questions. If BIOS settings are correct, why would Secure Boot show disabled?

results.JPG
But this YouTube explains that his was Secure Boot enabled which my BIOS says it is as well. (???)

IMG_0074.jpg

Is this correct for TPM?

Mike explained it right here.

Enable Secure Boot and under the Secure Boot heading, choose Windows UEFI, rather than Other OS.

You still have yours set to Other OS, change it to UEFI, trust me it will Boot up fine, then Secure Boot will show up as Enabled.

OK! That worked.
Results from both. I'm not changing the Ryzen 7-1700 8-core CPU. That must be a mistake from MS. Will Windows 11 install anyway & if so, should it be a dual boot?

Why would it be a dual boot, you are updating from W10 to W11.

Notice I didn`t say upgrading :)

Is it a mistake?

We do not know. We have 0 information as to why certain CPUs are supported and others not. There may be mitigating factors like CPU manufacturers dropping critical support for flaws / vulnerabilities that exist in those CPUs not supported.

Bingo. First official release hasn't made it out yet. Everything right now is speculation.

I also know that enterprising souls the world around (including @Superfly, don't let him fool ya - he's got tricks upon tricks up his sleeve!) will find ways to get around what is officially supported.

Folks have been doing it since well before the Windows 2000 days....

Why would it be a dual boot, you are updating from W10 to W11.

Notice I didn`t say upgrading :)
Just a precaution until Windows 11 is officially released. I'd certainly would do a backup of Win 10 before overwriting it.

Can anyone speculate why AMD series 1 Ryzen CPUs are excluded? Someone said MS may have just selected an arbitrary date. Or maybe something is lacking within these CPUs. Who knows?

I've known about the confusion at Microsoft for a long time.

I started with Win 3.1....and still have the installer on (multiple) floppy (disk sets) for 3.1 Upgrade, 3.1 full install, and 3.11 for Workgroups.

it's one of many reasons I continue to use a "$" in their name and abbreviation....

Although the forum gods are fixing my supposed mistake so most don't actually see it....
