It comes down to what it is the primary use for a GPU. Unfortunately, there isn't always enough emphasis in reviews on non-games performance of GPU's.

Reapplying paste or replacing with a thermal pad. Often the factory application is not good and the hot spot temperature is very high. Plus the paste gets pumped out and dries up over time becoming less effective. Replace broken fans, replace fan cooling with liquid cooling...

Most of that would be covered by warranty, at least in the UK. No warranty if it's been dismantled though!

A lot of what I mentioned are performance tweaks not covered under warranty. Also, my warranty is only 3 years past the date it was manufactured (not purchased). I keep my graphics card longer than that, so I appreciate having that information available, but I have yet to disassemble one.

My hot spot on my 4070Ti is very high,. I am confident that the manufacturer will not consider that a manufacturing defect and deny the warranty claim. I plan to fix that sometime. Just looked. Playing guardians of the galaxy my GPU temperature is 75c while the hottest spot on the GPU is 103C.

If you redo the paste without damaging the system, warranty is usually still covered (though Asus usually finds some scuff they call user damage to decline the warranty no matter what the claim). I would never send an Asus card in for warranty myself.

In addition, I think the limited warranties do not include replacing thermal paste.

I am really PO'd! I did a massive upgrade, not long ago, in anticipation of a new video card.... everything is ready for a new fast card, then they bungled the release and left me with a very fast computer and a crappy old video card (new CPU, memory, motherboard, powersupply).. just pissed.. hope Nvidia and al the stores are investigated for this fiasco.

No one can tell me that well in advance of the official release of the RTX 5000 series GPU's that Nvidia DIDN"T know there were supply issues brewing. Took the consumers for fools.

This isn't in support of nVidia. Paper launches are very undesirable. But I don't recall a company having been sued successfully over one.

I did get a check from the GTX 970 class action lawsuit, years ago. I wonder how much money the attorneys made off that one?

The RTX5090 will be crazy fast for compute because it has much faster and much more RAM than prev. gen. Also it has plenty of more CUDA cores to work with.

The nVidia provided 12VHPWR (H+) / 12V-2x6 (H++) cable adapter has a too small safety factor for its rated power. Only 1.1x. should be closer to 2 in order to be considered safe. Also the connector needs better design, so it can't be inserted wrongly or with loose connections in either ends. Same goes for these beefy PSUs (1200W+)
