Acronis (True Image)

To be frank, I've not created a WinPE flash drive in years as I've rarely found I needed it; with that I've definitely not created one for Windows 11, but your post has me curious now.

I will give this a test, but in the meantime, I suggest you visit the Acronis forums and post your question there. As a side note, I don't think TPM is the issue, but...

Good luck.
Just wanted to say thank you and to everyone else that responded.

Just an update.
I restored 3 different images, including the one I had the initial problem with and they all restored properly this time with the “Recover Operation Succeeded” message. I am unable to explain why I had the “synchronizing the operation system” message the other day when it finished restoring.
But after working 30 years in IT, I guess it really shouldn’t surprise me. lol
I still may reach out to Acronis forums out of curiosity.
Just to confirm, you are using Acronis 2018 in Win 11 without a bootable flash drive and all works well when launched in Win 11?
Thanks again,
Gord

I am building my first Secure Boot - TPM computer. A month ago I installed the free Acronis True Image program I got from Western Digital many years ago. It installed okay and it tested okay too. I made a backup of a partition containing Windows, then made changes to the Windows OS, then did a restore. Everything worked.

Yesterday I tried installing the same Acronis program on another Windows installation, and it wouldn't install. It hangs in the middle of the install and won't cancel. I have to do a forced shutdown. This doesn't surprise me much. I suspect it isn't compatible with Secure Boot.

I looked at Macrium. It could be good for some people but probably not for me. I have many partitions and several installations of Win11 and Win10.

I'm now trying Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office. It looks good. I don't like paying each year, but I'm thinking it is probably the best for my situation.
Hi Steve, something was blocking your install but I don't think it was the TPM. If it's your Asrock, I'm surprised. Now taking a yearly subscription is a personal choice.

What really bothers me with Acronis's decision is the fact that they sell a cyber service which seems more to indicate that backup isn't the first option. Sure they can offer Cyber protect and it might even be good, but if I don't want Cyber protect, give me the option of using a stand-alone backup solution. I suspect that if Acronis offers this option a lot of users will opt out of Cyber protect because they already have an antivirus solution.

Hi Steve, something was blocking your install but I don't think it was the TPM.
With the secure boot stuff, Microsoft puts 3 "secret" partitions on the disk that the old Acronis never saw. They have no partition letters and it is difficult or impossible to give them a letter. It's also difficult or impossible to see what's in them. There is the 100 MB EFI System partition, the 508 MB Recovery partition, and the 16 MB Microsoft Reserved partition that could be used by Microsoft in the future.

I guess when installing the old Acronis T.I. program, it tries to check out all the partitions and gets stuck.

I tried the install on 2 different Windows installations on 2 different partitions with the same result.

Yes... I'm using Acronis 2018 on Windows 11 without a bootable flash drive. And yes, it works when launching in Windows 11

In short, as stated, ATI 2018 works under Windows 11.

Like many others I have ditched Acronis after having used it for many many years. They kept adding additional functionality to the program to the point that it was causing a lot of problems with my windows system. After ditching Acronis I switched to Macrium Reflect v8 and quite frankly I wish I had switched years earlier! Macrium is running just fine on Windows 11.

I've said this before but will post again... Acronis True Image 2021 is available as a subscription and a perpetual license.

Source: Acronis True Image 2021 licensing | Knowledge Base

That said, if one wants the perpetual license, you'll have to buy from other vendors like Amazon because of this Acronis move...
Effective October 1, 2021, Acronis will only offer new perpetual licenses through Acronis's Channel Partners in the Greater China Region, Korea and Japan. In other regions, Acronis will only sell subscription-based licenses. Please refer to Licensing page for more information.

I just want to clear up something here. Acronis 2021 as per say can be bought as a perpetual licence, I have one. What I was talking about is what follows from now on True image will be replaced with Cyber protect and the equivalent of True Image will be Acronis Essentials, Advanced and Premium which are only available through subscriptions.
1636762336669.png

If you want anything that isn't even close to TI you can get Cyber Protect workstation and as you mentioned only through a vendor (good luck finding a vendor). That version has nothing that comes with TI like cloning, universal restore and many other goodies. and BTW, sells for 60$ US.

All the links are in my post - File backup vs imaging, imaging utilities, backing up drivers [post #3] - TenForums

Neither the WD nor Samsung versions try to push users into buying the full version.
I don't suppose that Sabrent's version does either but you will know better than I do.

What do you know about the Crucial version?

Denis
So, I haven't found a Samsung option. You're link only leads to Seagate Disk wizard. I only switched from Samsung drives on my installs to Crucial because I never found a backup solution. If you have a direct link, please share. I don't even install Crucial on my machine. All my drives are Samsung.

As for Crucial it's basically the same as the others. Basic backup without option to program backup times.

Assuming the computer in question does have a WD, SanDisk, G-Technology disk in it, perhaps you could try the latest WD version [which I was using successfully with Windows 10 until a month or so ago when I replaced my WD drive with a Samsung one so switched to their version]. Download links are in my post - File backup vs imaging, imaging utilities, backing up drivers [post #3] - TenForums

Best of luck,

Nice find. I never noticed or must of forgotten (2011) that Samsung sold the HDD part of their business to Seagate.

Have you tried it on a Samsung SSD?
Yes. On Samsung SSD**, Seagate HDD++, Samsung USB^^.

** This computer is my Windows 11 testbed. In this case, the SSD is the main disk [partitions - OS drive, data drive].
++ My main computer has two hard disks - WD OS disk [M.2], Seagate HDD. I chose to use Seagate DiscWizard instead of WD.
^^ On another computer, I get it to qualify for Seagate DiscWizard despite its third-party main disk by having a Samsung USB flash drive plugged in to it all the time.

All the best,
Denis

I bought three licenses for Acronis True Image 2021 (Perpetual). After using ATI for six years I was really disappointed.. The GUI was painfully slow to respond. I had enough after I updated to build 39216. Mobile backups were now broken. Acronis support said that would be the last build so no fix would be coming. I had previously used Acronis True Image 2018 (Perpetual) with no problems. I convinced Acronis to let me downgrade all my licenses from 2021 to 2018. I am now running ATI 2018 on all my computers including the one with Windows 11.

ATI 2021 at first backed up in a reasonable time. However, as time went on it took longer and longer. In the end with Windows 10 the backup time exceeded 12 hours. ATI 2018 seem to be working OK with Windows 11. Right now it is doing incremental backups. When it switched to doing full backups I will have to see how long it is taking.

Hi Mister ED,

Again, looking at your specs something is weird. It should backup at the same rate as 2018. Did you do a clean install without a previous version on that system?

All the best,
Denis
I will definitely test this on a next build !!

Question? Are you saying once you buy and install True Image 2021 perpetual, it will convert to Cyber Protect and automatically become a subscription?
