ACT USB-C M.2 NVMe freezes in Windows 11

Hello everybody!

I have an ACT USB 3.2 -> NVMe enclosure. On windows 7 it works perfectly. But on Windows 11 Pro (24H2) it freezes and Disk Management cant iterate it so it freezes too and basically it's entirely useless. I did format it ntfs on the windows 7 laptop. I'm using it directly in a Beelink Mini PC, the GTi13 Ultra.

I think it's a windows thing, might require some other driver. I don't know. Maybe somebody knows what's up?

Have you tried Minitools Partition Wizard to see if it still freezes?
You shouldn’t need any drivers unless it’s related to the NVMe itself, somehow.

What happens if you remove the NVMe from the enclosure and plug the enclosure into the PC?

What is the NVMe? Brand & model?

NVMe is a Crucial P3 1TB (CT1000P3SSD8)
It came with my Beelink, but I replaced this one with a bigger one and now I want to use this one as an external storage.

1. If I use the USB-C to USB A connector and attach it to my USB 3.2 port (on the beelink, no hubs): nothing
2. If I use the USB-C connector in my USB 4 port on the beelink (Don't have a USB-C on it): it disables my keyboard

Notice that if the crucial is in the enclosure, in the case of "1", USB 3.2 connection: freezes. IN the case of USB-c to USB 4, Keyboard is disabled again but now it works a little: has a slow response time. Reminder that in Windows 7 on the laptop, it works fine (USB 2 by the way

Yes. Anything trying to access it freezes. Explorer, Disk Management, Partition Wizard.
Eventually after minutes, Minitools Partition Wizard does start. I delete everything, try to create a new partition and format it, but it remains stuck at creating the partition. It's hopeless.

Have you run any diagnostics on the NVMe? Although you did say that you have no issues with it in Windows 7

You can't. Anything that access it freezes up. On windows 7 machine no problems found. I did it there first.

Odd, I have two 4TB NVMe drives in two different USB enclosures, and they haven't given me any issues.

Can you try the NVMe drive anywhere else?

Yeah right. If you have time to screw around (but who does) could you swap it out with the main NVMe and see if you can instigate an install on it?
Seems extreme though.

Hold on, I'm on to something. I suspect the cable that was shipped with it.

please open disk management and see what partitions are on the drive.
right click start > on this menu disk management

delete all and any partitions on the drive then format the drive
see if that improves the drives performance.

note.
if this cant be done via disk management then you can do this
via a live Linux bootable USB using disk's.

Solved it! It was the cable that shipped with it all along! It worked barely on USB-2, so no wonder it worked on the laptop. But on the USB3.2 gen 2 port, it didn't throttle, but failed to deliver entirely.
