After Sleep no longer bypassing Password..

..this just happened yesterday and to get it to login bypassing all and go straight to my desktop, I have to restart the laptop because it stops on login password.

I am running 22H2 22621. 1555 on an HP Laptop. I tried all the online fixes I could find going through Settings, accounts, sign in options. I think it's strange I don't have the option to set to Never in my list under Addtional Settings > If you've been away when should Windows require you to sign in again?

When I first got this a few months ago, I did the whole bypass thing and it's worked perfect up until yesterday. Anyone know how to fix this? Appreciate any help as I'm getting tired of restarting in order to make it work Denise

credit to @Bree for this note: It should be noted that for Option One and Option Three the 'If you've been away, when should Windows require you to sign in again?' menu only appears in Sign in options when your account has a password. If you use a local account with a blank password you'll first have to set a password before you can change this setting. You can set it back to a blank password afterwards.

This is getting ugly, I need my password which I forgot, and the only info I can find on "how do I find a lost password in Win 11" is to reset my laptop which will keep personal files, but no apps. This is ridiculous because for some reason, my laptop just stopped going straight into my desktop when ever I either started it up, or, if I closed the lid which is set to put it to Sleep but no, I have to do a restart and it logs in for me once again and goes straight to desktop.

Has anyone had this issue, and if so knows a fix without having to reset? Again, my main problem is I lost my password? Won't any of the options above that Bree created a tutorial for work in this situation? It seems none of them do

Disregarding the wake/PW issue, the thing is,you can only go so long before another situation is going to arise where you have to have your account password. I suggest you temporarily turn off sleep and work to get your password situation straightened out first. Once you get your account straightened out you can deal with the wake/pw issue

If it's a MS account, you can go through password recovery here Reset a forgotten Microsoft account password - Microsoft Support Once you change your password restart the computer and it will fail during automatic logon. Entering the new password should get you in.

The following refers to local accounts:
If it is a local account and you've forgotten it's password, you can try to change it using your security questions. Change or reset your Windows password - Microsoft Support
If that doesn't work, you can try the other suggestions here for a local account. 6 Ways to Reset Forgotten Windows 10 password for Administrator or Microsoft Account

If none of the above options work, another option, since you are able to currently get into your account, is to create a new local account with administrative privileges From your current account copy(NOT MOVE) all your files onto an external drive. Log into newly created account, It will go thru OOBE. Once it comes up to its desktop you can copy your files from external drive into the new account. Once you know all your files are in their proper place and accessible, you can delete the old account. This method will take a little work as all your personalized settings will have to be set up again.


Resetting the PC would fix the wake/PW issue, BUT would leave you in a world of hurt if you don't know your password. If you reset and select the 'Keep My Files' option, then your original user profile will remain on the PC after the reset and your current login details won't change. You still would not know what your password and would be stuck on the login screen. Netplwiz (auto logon) is stored in HKLM in the registry. HKLM will be reset during a windows reset so you would be forced to enter your password.. It is only if you select to 'Remove Everything' that you would need to set up a new user profile when the Reset completes.

In any case, I strongly suggest you have everything backed up.
