After updating to Windows 11, system won't shut down/restart properly

OS
Win 11
I just updated to Windows 11 yesterday. Since doing so, my laptop won't shut down or restart properly. When I invoke either command, I get a black screen with the spinning balls circle. No matter how long I wait, the computer won't shut down/restart. I have to hold down the power button to force a shut down. Is anyone else experiencing this problem or does anyone have any suggestions for a resolution?

On what might be a related note, when my system starts up, it logs into my account automatically, even though I have it set to require a password - I use my fingerprint reader.

Windows 11 can be rolled back to Windows 10 during a 10 day default period.

This can be modified so that you can test drive for 60 days.

Before or after completing the above steps that FreeBooter posted you can modify the roll back time period.

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

DISM /Online /Get-OSUninstallWindow
DISM /Online /Set-OSUninstallWindow /Value:60

Post an image or share link of the commands with results into this thread.

Thanks, that worked. Sadly, the cause is still unknown and I have one less Windows feature to take advantage of. Hopefully Redmond will address this soon.

I thought you said you were going to do a clean install. None of the issues you've reported are normal. Other than a few complaints about the things that have changed in Windows 11, most of the folks here like it and haven't experienced the problems you have.

As far as the password, you won't use one if you are logging on with a fingerprint. The only time windows would require the password, (or pin) is if your fingerprint did not work for some reason.

I guess I wasn't clear. My point was the computer wasn't even requiring me to scan my fingerprint. It was just logging me in.

Sir, you have active posts on system won't shut down, files not showing on desktop, and program manager not working. That's not normal and none of it should be happening if you had a clean upgrade. You have no idea what else is messed up that you haven't discovered yet.

Perhaps. But I never said I'd be performing a clean install. It may be the best solution, but I have not reached a decision on that yet.

I think probably the best bet was my suggestion to do a repair install.
The reason I did not suggest a repair install is with all his strange problems I didn't feel confident that the problem was solely the fault of the OS, but rather possibly could have been a condition on the computer before the upgrade which would still be there after a repair install. A repair install would be something else he could try, but if that proved to be the case, he would still end up having to do a clean install to fix it. A repair install is the exact same thing as an upgrade, except it's done using an iso rather than through windows update. That said, the OP has asked for help with a number of problems to which several of us have offered our opinions and suggestions. Yet he had not given us any indication he has tried any of them other than turning off fast startup which he seemed unhappy about having to do.
