if anybody thinks or believes that all these large/huge/massive worldwide companies/corporations are spending billions now heading to trillions of dollars/pounds/euro's on something like AI and not demand a return on that large/huge/massive investment, i would think again.

i have no idea what their end game is but it is most certain they have an end game. the end of what i am unsure
but i don't believe this new AI industrial revolution is for the betterment of ordinary people but that's for you to decide.

Smaller AI were used to train our current AI, which in turn are being trained to train bigger AI. The probability of these machines in future generations having greater reasoning power than humans is very high. Whoever controls these machines will have immense power.

The probability of these models escaping and decentralizing themselves will be quite high as well, without some serious forethought and safeguards put in place. Currently the "move fast and break things" ethos in silicon valley is still running very strong. It depends how doomsday-ish you want to get, but potentially these machines could be our "final solution" if we don't keep a very close eye on them, especially when we make them nuclear powered.

It's really a bit crazy, like keeping a tiger cub for a pet. I guess we'll see how it goes though.

Plagiarism has been rife -- in Classical Music it's often regarded as a good thing -- what about Vaughan Williams (famous 20th cent British composer who wrote "Fantasia on a theme bt Thomas Tallis") , or much music used in Hollywood / other films / TV series, plus Mozart, Haydn and Handel were absolute past masters at this type of stuff particularly emulating Bach and Vivaldi. Popular music too plagiarises from the classics -- Turn, Turn, Turn by the Byrds (1965) is a good example --especially the solo guitar bit.

Reverse Engineering is 100% accepted as legitimate -- presumably that's based on someone else having invented an idea first !!!.

What one must distinguish between is an exact copy of the original and decent artistic and engineering license - not easy and that's what sensible courts (there are still a few around) must decide. How would improvements in any endeavour be possible if it wasn't possible to build on the work of others.

There's no 100% correct answer IMHO on this one -- "reasonableness" seems to be the thing to aim at plus acknowleging the originator of the idea but in the grasping greedy reality of the corporate world I doubt if that's possible.

It's the same as a Govt fining a nationalized / Govt owned / run service some money -- I believe the severely cash strapped health service in the UK (NHS) was fined a load of money because of some failing of an employee at a near London hospital it owns - same in USA with those military $400 or more toilet seats etc etc. So it's poor old joe blogs - the taxpayer who coughs up in these instances with the Lawyers earning a huge wodge of money especially if any tort or class action suit involving a lot of claimants can be generated. !!!

Perhaps we all have been in the wrong job and should have been lawyers or bankers. !!!

I actually do think there is accountability.

I had a short "conversation" with ChatGPT (GPT-5) and even it came to the conclusion that it's responses are an inevitable result of the ignorance and biases of the developers who train it and the data sources they give it access to. In a very real sense they should be held accountable.

Whatever they're up to, it's probably not good.
You can judge the contempt a company has for its customers by the difficulty in getting past the invariably useless AI answering service to speak to real person who can actually solve your problem. Most multinational corporations are ultimately owned by people who see the masses as "useless eaters"

I think the thing they're essentially up to is eliminating human error. They may tell us it's to be accomplished by assisting the "human in the loop", but ultimately it will eliminate the human from the loop entirely.
