Yeah AI PCs are good at working with LLMs and perform worst for general compute tasks. I've noticed Microsoft has been adding MCP servers to Windows too. MCP essentially gives LLMs the abiltiy to access data on your system and perform action on that data. Sounds like we'll see a whole new category of attacks on Windows. No thanks.

I am confused.

I have the latest windows 11 and Copilot was included as an app.
Copilot is now in my taskbar.

If I have to search for information on ANYTHING I will first use CoPilot

The answers are very quick and accurate. Latest search. We are going for
a holiday to South Africa and wanted to know about a restaurant close

My System Two is a Microsoft Surface Laptop Copilot+ PC. I really like it a lot. I was fully prepared to return it if I didn't like it, but for me it's a keeper. I'm quite impressed with the speed of the Snapdragon X Elite ARM processor. I have yet to have the battery be below 60% at the end of the day.

I use Copilot many times every day. The majority of my use is for Windows and technical questions. For me, Copilot has always been accurate and extremely helpful. When I have difficulty understanding something, I love being able to continue asking additional questions until I've gained a full understanding. After using it heavily for the past 18 months, I would not want to be without my Copilot Key.

Windows 11 version 26H1 will ship exclusively on new computers featuring next-generation ARM processors, specifically the Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 and likely NVIDIA N1X platforms. It will not be available as a standard upgrade for existing Intel or AMD-based PCs.

Problem is many high end PC's are being sold with AI rather you want it or not now. I wanted two specific PC's but no co-pilot and no NPU wasn't an option. Anyway, you still have some choice on using it or not.

I hope they aren't buying those machines just for 26H1 and more advanced AI. Those are snappy little machines though so if they NEED new machines I'd recommend them. I have an earlier gen Snapdragon X Elite and like it a lot.

Yeah, but I don't like throwing out hardware that's only a couple of years old. Not only do I not have the money for it but it's also wasteful.

I'm glad AI PCs aren't selling. It will send them a message that not everybody out there wants one. Call me old school on that. 🧐

Oh I hear that, seems like computers depreciate faster and faster anymore. And they are way to pricy to keep replacing.

Just because some people want AI to run their lives, that doesn't mean everybody else out there wants AI to run their lives. 🤨

That's how I approach it.

AI has its uses (although I object to term AI as it is just marketing bs). Its use in hearing aid technology development has led to significant improvement in assisting hearing aid users hear speech with loud background noise for example.

However, the relentless pursuit of AI in Windows totally overestimates domestic user usage/needs of AI. I (out of curiosity) tried to use copilot to suggest report improvements and its results were laughable. My 13 year old step grand daughter could do better!

In the end, with regards to Windows, AI is A SOLUTION TO A PROBLEM WE NEVER HAD.

Using Linux rather than Windows with AI?

To me, it sounds like "cutting one's nose to spite one's face".

Personally I would prefer to just ignore Windows AI rather than use Linux (not that there is an actual OS called Linux really as it is just an umbrella name like Scandinavia which encompasses several countries).

i used Ubuntu for 20 years Windows is not my preferred operating system.
Ubuntu moved to snap packages and after Ubuntu 24.04 LTS it became near impossible to remove snaps

so i throw Windows on my system which works but Windows isnt an operating system i would choose
but i have found a Ubuntu based operating system without snaps
it uses deb's and Flatpaks, you even get to choose which ones you want, just like pick'n'mix
and that system is Zorin OS which i am playing with in Virtual box at the moment
Zorin OS is based on Ubuntu but without any of the snap packages
it will be installed very soon on both mine and my wife's system, just ironing out the bugs.

so if Microsoft wants to push then i will just shove Windows elsewhere.
