As per the title. I updated one laptop last evening to 24H2 (via Windows Update). It appeared to go smoothly. A SFC afterwards shows no integrity violations. Left the machine running all night to let it do any indexing. Did not test anything out.

This morning I'm trying to use the laptop & all three browsers are unusable. I can open Chrome, Edge & Firefox OK & they all load the homepage as expected. I can navigate to links on the homepages, as well as any site which I have bookmarked. However the second I try & type (even only 1 letter) in the search bar/address bar - the browsers crash with no error. They just disappear. I have no pending updates in Windows Update or HP support Assistant. There is no dedicated GPU - it's running iris plus graphics. The same behaviour happens with private/incognito browsers are loaded, so not an extension issue.

Have cleared the cache etc, rebooted the computer, run a further SFC (no integrity violations) & the problem persists. Switching off hardware acceleration makes no difference. Found a post on Microsoft answers reporting the same exact behaviour (dated Nov 2024), & person just rolled back to 23h2 (no other solution provided), which fixed the problem.

I did check the list of known issues for 24h2 before updating, but nothing seemed to apply to my laptop. Can always rollback, but would like to troubleshoot first. Anyone else had this issue? How did you fix it?

(EDIT - if I go to Google (via bookmark) & then type in the search bar on google the same things happens - a crash anywhere from immediately to 6 seconds later. The letter(s) I type in never appears. I also can't search in the search field of the settings page in any browser either).

Have you scanned your computer for viruses/key loggers?

Thanks for giving me an idea I hadn't thought of the @thecaretaker - your mention of keylogging. Just uninstalled "Keyscrambler" & all is well. It doesn't affect typing in windows search box, only anything in browsers (which is the only time Keyscrambler kicks in on the free version) - a big clue! May try reinstalling it to see if that fixes it, else leave Keyscrambler off the machine if it doesn't.

I am meticulous with malware avoidance & protection. Scans by windows defender & MBAM pro showed no issues yesterday. Did just run an on-demand Hitman Pro & on-demand Emsisoft Emergency Kit scan to make sure - everything clean as a whistle.

This issue is a software conflict. In my case it was Keyscrambler the anti keylogging app.
Simply updating Keyscrambler has fixed it for me.

It also happens in 25H2
