Alldocube VBook i35A Laptop - 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM, Celeron N3450 update question

If only one shortcut is affected, you can right-click on it, go to Properties, then Change icon and see if you can select another icon. Then do that again and select the original icon. This should fix it. I have also seen that the bug depends on the icon size. That is if you see large icons it may be OK, but if you switch to tiles or other larger size there might be blank or vice versa. This happened in Windows 10 too, it is not a Windows 11 bug, but I guess it is related to the icon cache. If you delete the cache as explained in my earlier reply it should fix.

nope i did it and nothing changed the desktop icon changed the taskbar did not change and in the icons when i went to change it back the original was not there. so i guess it is a fluke. if that is the only one i can deal with that. that icon is the same size on the desktop as the others and i have not yet went to settings to change the taskbar icons to a smaller size, it might be the non supported part of this OS playing game. anyway i may play around and see if i can figure it out later today. thanks.

I have seen it also. In rare cases the taskbar icons are screwed. Once I delete the icon cache everything is normal again.

ok can you tell me i just got that new to me hp ryzen 3 pc and in setting it up i came up and asked me if i want MacAfee to run? i have not ran outside antivirus apps for a long time, i thought windows took care of that now. so in order to continue i let it install, is the good bad or indifferent? if i do not need it i will uninstall it i know they take resources and make the pc a bit slower.

I purchased 2 machines for Win11, Notebook in Oct. '21 and Desktop in Apr. '22, both came with McAfee. I immediately uninstalled McAfee after setup as I don't use it, got an E-Mail 2 weeks ago wanting $367USD for 3 year renewal of McAfee, since I never activated it they should not have had my information. I took steps with my bank to assure there was insufficient money in my account to pay it.

that is what i thought i will remove it now thanks i shut it off and put it into airplane mode to give me tiem to remove it. one thing i noticed is it is rather slow. but that may be due to it installing mcafee and doing updates. i rebooted it and up popped mcafee telling me my subscription expired. i did properties and this has a 2.60ghz processor so i figured it would be a bet faster than it is, but maybe when it gets don with somesetup items it may settle down.

ok this pc is sloow so i found out the boot order and rest it and now i'm putting win10 on it and i will set it up and then see if it will do an upgrade later after i have it set up. i think it had a mixed signal in the os. i could not install classic shell or a few other apps myradar would not install. win10 is installing rather fast in about 1 minute it is in the first restart. when i would restart it before it took minutes and minutes and minutes to boot. a pc that is all chips and no hard drive should boot fast. when i looked at the build it was 21h2 for win11. anyway i have win 10 on it now to get things going is seems much faster. i will let you know if it stays that way

The first 2-3 restarts of newly installed Windows 10/11 are slower until Windows finishes configuring devices, installing drivers and updates. The next should be a lot faster. Regarding McAfee it is usually a 60 day trial and then you have to buy it. I usually uninstall it and just use Windows Defender.

i just installed win10 and i will let the pc tell me when it is ready for win11. it is lots faster now. i have installed lots of OS on pcs for people and this is the first one that ran so slow for being a fast cpu. and yes i figured at first it amyhave been due to all the updates but after i set the bios to boot to the usb first and let it run win10 iso it started running faster. in task manager under preformance it is running at 2.7ghz so it should have been way faster. now i'm using the new pc for testing and to get some of the app running. i tried a few tiems to get the myradar on this pc and microsoft store will not show it yet. so now ihave to go looking for it. also for now it is done with updates. thin pc is not as fast as the alldocube unit i have but i think i will try speeding up the cpu just a bit on this one and see if that helps.

Unless you install proper drivers for the graphics card and in many systems for the chipset as well, the performance always suffers. After all drivers are properly installed the system is much faster. Windows 10 just installs some drivers that Windows 11 doesn't install without installing other updates first, and that explains why the computer is faster with Windows 10. Once you have all drivers installed in Windows 11 it should be as fast as Windows 10, occasionally faster due to better resource management.

thanks for that info it is now getting more updates believe it or not it still has 21h2 for win10 i was under the impression 22h2 was win10 but maybe that is win10 pro that the probook has on it.

this new hp laptop seems to be still doing updates that is taking lots of time, it is now getting a new bios image update that may help it seems to be adding a few bios changes. i can't have it this slow compared to the probook and alldocube pcs. plus it seems to be having a hard time getting the other updates i get errors all the time it does not want to install them. i will play with it somemore.

plus it has check for win11 requirements showing in the update page i have not run that compatibility app yet. but it had win11 on it when i got it and that was sloooow and ran poorly, however it may just do a win11 by itself if and when it does get all the updates for win11

also i tried to get it to run the monitor and it failed but after the bios update it now runs the monitor from the hdmi on the pc to the dvi on the monitor. now to find out if the usb-c port will support the monitor with an adapter, i did try one adapter and that did not work but that adapter may need a power supply to work. so i have to check the hp specs and see what port will power an adapter so i can get a few more usb ports

thanks i will let you know how it goes

There are some updates that make earlier updates obsolete since they contain the same or similar changes. If such a new update installs before the update that makes obsolete, then the obsolete update cannot install and hence the error messages. You have to delete the update cache so Windows Update will be forced to check again and omit the obsolete updates.

The external monitor doesn't work unless you install proper graphics drivers.

thanks after the bios update the monitor now works with the hdmi port i do not know if the usb-c port will drive it thru the vga as the adapter i have does not seem to work thru that port. i will see if i can figure out how to delete the update cache. also i can't upgrade the CPU it is soldered into then motherboard. but i may be able to add more memory it now has 4gb it can take up to 16gb also it ahs a 1tb ssd m.2 stick and they do not come with those so i wonder if the ssd is not a fast ssd and that is slowing it down. in task manage it is running at 2.4 to 2.8ghz so the ssd may be the issue or a lack of memory. i my see if this ssd stick will fit in the alldocube and if it will boot being they re new and have the ufei running they may not swap out at all. i do not want to reinstall the OS for testing that theory out. i asked the hp forum about the drive then may be able to tell me. i may take the back off and get numbers and photos for the memory and ssd m.2 stick and show them or you if you may know as that low memory or a slow ssd stick can cause this as well. thanks

The USB-C port in PCs is in host mode (accept USB devices) by default, like a regular USB 2.0 or higher port. They are not designed as video out. Unless you have a special utility from manufacturer that can switch the USB-C port from host mode to video out, you cannot get a picture. These are valid for USB-C ports onboard the motherboard of course. If you have a discrete PCIe graphics card with a USB-C port, then this one is configured as video out and you can connect a monitor in this.

ok i did some tweaks. went into preformance and set that for max and then power and made some tweaks and it seems faster now. it still may benifit from installing more ram i will check what is has and look for more of the same or just repalce it completley. the specs will tell me what i need.

the usb-c port per the spech is suppost to do that when you plug in an adapter like i posted. this one will not even see a thumb stick so there may be a switch i have to locate and turn on. it has 2 usb ports but i have a speaker set on one and the other one will soon wear out if i'm plugging into it all the time. plus i need a valid video out. but being i have the hdmi output i can now use that. i will look for a way to turn that usb-c port into an in and out port. thanks

If there is nothing related to the User Guide, then it is host mode only, it cannot be changed. That means a simple adapter USB-C to HDMI won't work. There are USB to HDMI adapters that work as an extra monitor. Maybe there are also USB-C to HDMI adapters that do that, but make sure before you buy one.

thansk for all the help spapakns. you have been very helpful. i tried boosting the spped a bit but it went back to original. i'm going to look for another pc that is a 4 core intell cpu and does a fast bench test in the passmark site. i failed to do taht with this pc andit turnes out to be a slow pc on that test. my 6470b is the left columb and this ryzen is the righ columb you see it is not musch betther than the 6470b and the 6470b is acutally faster than the ryzen 3 pc so i do not know why it tests out faster. i had them sidi by side yesterday and the 6470b was way faster even after i did some tweats that went away during a restart. i think i will start loooking for i7 or i8 cpu in the 8 and above for the model nonbers so i7-8xxxx or i8-8xxxx as those are the win11 machines. this had win 11 on it but that was even slower it does pass teh win11 so i will put win11 on it some time soon unless it updates by itself. i had one other pc update by itself but that is a real old pc and i do not know why it di and it is real slow even with linix on it it was slow. again thanks for trying to help.
