AMD or Intel for my new build...

I had intended on a Z790/14700k to replace my daily driver but held off. I just have it as a spare system now.

I've been saving for a while, got a nice chunk ready for a new build, hopefully it'll happen within the next month

I've been an Intel user my entire computing life, but if I was buying/building a system today, I would go AMD. There's entirely too much upheaval within Intel to suit me right now, what with Qualcom or Nvidea buying them out. JMO.

I was an Intel user for as long as I can remember. Going back I had a Gigabyte X38, then an X79 (amazing board and chipset!)
When it was time to upgrade that I got an Asus X99 which was utter junk, PC kept crashing, massive problems.
That got returned and I went with the original AMD TR 1900X/X399 board.
I had that a couple of years but it never seemed right, it was new tech at the time but I don't think the 'teething problems' ever went away
In 2020 I got this cuurent board, X570 Xtreme. The orignal 3900X CPU failed so I got it replaced with a 5900X which I still use. It was a cheap upgrade as I got a replacement 3900X in an RMA, which I sold on eBay at full price!

I do like the look of the new Z890 Intel but I could go still go AMD again at the moment

Yeah, I too have a Ryzen 5900x and was getting an itch to build something new...but honestly I'm not wanting in any particular area on my build. It does everything I need very quickly, so I think I am going to hold on for another year or 2.

Long time AMD user here. I think for my next build, it's going to be Intel, even though it is more expensive than AMD. I have my eye on an i7 13700K or 14700K. I have a 13700K in my desktop at work and it literally blows the doors off of my Ryzen 5800X at home in standard benchmarks.
I have also been looking at an i9 CPU, but if I go that route, I may stick to 13th generation to keep the costs down. Thing is, if I buy an i9, I have to figure out a way to cool it without breaking the bank. I have an old Corsair 240mm AIO that could fit into the front of the case. I dunno, we'll see. I am not exactly happy with the cooling performance of my Noctua D15 on my current CPU. Either I messed up the thermal paste, or it just isn't as good as they say it is. I routinely drift into the 80's temperature wise under load, where I was in the low 60's with my AIO. I am not sure that my D15 could cool even the i7 I am looking at. I should run some tests at work. I have a similar cooler to the D15 at work. It's humongous, anyway.

AMD with NVIDIA Graphics—at least, that's what I decided on. So do yourself a favor and get a Gigabyte Ultra Durable mobo. I favor that personally because I have three Linux OSs, and GRUB doesn't really work well with BTRFS. My two cents only.

Nvidia graphics all the way, for me. When I finally went Nvidia last year it was like night and day. Compared to my Radeon RX 6800XT at work, my RTX 3070 Ti at home is much better at benchmarks anyway. Benchmarks don't tell the whole story, of course, but I get much better frame rates with the Nvidia card than I do with the Radeon one in anything that requires complex rendering.

I have an older i9 (10th gen) I'm sure the newer ones are better but I still wouldn't scrimp on the cooling. Get it right from the get-go to save yourself misery later. Throw Antarctica at it if you have to.

New x3d all the way, intel & their weak APO can`t catch a break.
Every mobo brand will come up with some kind of X3D boost like Gigabytes x3d turbo with one click & socket will last 2 or 3 intel generations.

I've contacted two UK PC part retailers and both have said that the chances of getting an X870E Godlike in the UK are next to zero.

Makes no sense. JUST TAKE MY MONEY MSI

If you're seriously considering purchasing one of the newly released AMD Ryzen or Intel desktop processors, my advice is to wait. give it 3-6 months until the motherboard manufacturers iron out the inevitable kinks via some bios updates.

Yes, BIOS updates will be needed at first.
The fact that the boards are unavailable here means I'll have to wait anyway!

I visited Amazon UK, and they suggest delivery sometime in December or January.

I suppose there's some chance that's for real.

If it makes you feel better (?), it doesn't appear to be readily available in the USA yet.

FWIW Newegg doesn't show it either. I seem to remember seeing it might not be available until later....whatever later means.

I cannot find the MSI X870E Godlike in the US with any searches I am doing.

If i hit the MSI site and search, I can find retails in Taiwan ,but when I switch to the USA, i get nothing.

Yes I think they're slow to launch around the world. The Godlike is the only model showing on the MSI web pages even though they've 'launched' other models.

More of a paper launch than an actual one I think!
See what happens once the 9800X3D is launched next week

I may re-consider and go back to tried and tested Gigabyte who I've used for many years
