AMD System 20.50.0.0 Any way to uninstall it?

Hello. Yesterday, Windows downloaded and installed this "driver update", and restarted the system. I don't know if it's for gpu, chipset, cpu. The name is very generic: AMD System.
I would like to uninstall it, but it's not listed in either the uninstall updates menu, and in control panel > apps & programs menu.
I want to uninstall, because first, I don't know what is it. Second, I think it's an old version. It's 20.50.0.0, and in this Windows Update Catalog, seems to exist more recent versions of that.
And, I already had all updated, both chipset and gpu drivers.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

'AMD - System' is a catch-all name for all of their system drivers. The one's in your Catalog list are for completely different drivers. Also, if you look at their details you'll see that each version is specifically for a particular manufacturer.

Your 20.50.0.0 is a Pci Bus driver for your Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite.

The 22.40.0.0 one is a completely different driver and is for ASUSTeK machines.

Doing a 'System Restore' should back you out of it. That is, assuming that you've not shut off your System Restore, and that you have a current Restore Point.
 
Thanks @Bree for correcting me. To OP, may I ask why you want to uninstall this driver. Is it causing a particular problem?
Not that I'm recommending it, you may be able to use device manager to manually uninstall that device along with its driver. Restart and manually install your own. I would pause windows update first. However, if you are running Home version of Windows, MS may well attempt to install the driver again. You can

Supposedly you can hide it as shown in this video. I'm sure Brink has a tutorial for this, but I can't find anything with this search engine.


That said, if your system is AMD and requires the driver, I'd just let it install and move on.

Anyway, to clarify: I can't find it anywhere in device manager, and it was impossible to hide in Win Update. It immediately shows up and install in a bunch of seconds.

It can be hidden using the 'wushowhide' tool

I wouldn't worry about it as it's most likely needed.

And (assuming) if it's a chipset driver look under "IDE/ATA ATAPI Controllers" and look for any AMD drivers.
