An observation on a never ending spiral of upgrade advice

I thought I'd have a look at forcing an upgrade of my Desktop (Windows 10) PC to Windows 11. What I achieved in searching for a method was a headache and an overload of opinions on the right way to achieve this. (...and a bit of "Mines bigger that yours") I am not the brightest spark but I can discriminate and evaluate and count to 11 (well at least 9) but talk about getting lost.

I'm not looking for help, just sharing my opinion. There has to be a better way to accommodate certain processes in a forum? (I personally like and swear by Brinks Tutes)
I get it that there are many ways to achieve something... but.

You make a good point.
I think the main thing at issue, is there are sooooo many different computers, setups, wants and desires, that even the illustrious Shawn (Brink), can't make a tutorial for every situation. He tries though.

My two cents... start with the laptop, with the newer hardware. No matter what method you use... it'll be easier on the laptop.
Most important of all... use backup software. Windows 11 is gonna be weird for a year or two yet.
MS is still playing around with it. But with good backups, you should be able to weather all storms.

I’ve seen Macrium mentioned quite a few times. Why is it nobody uses the Windows (Control panel) Windows 7 method of creating an image? I swear by it.

And yeah, I understand it. I also get that this is also a forum for those that are very knowledgable on all things Windows and converse and share and don’t need to be reading childrens books on processes. But remembering the newbies is something I think that is vital. The goal is getting everyone up to speed, kind of`? Opening a path for new Obi-Wan‘s?
I am also a fan of Brinks, he has helped me so much with his tutorials, I have bookmarks coming out of my ears.

Microsoft has even recommended we don't use that. They are deprecating (phasing out), Windows backup.

For non-enterprise backups, AOMEI Backupper Standard is just as good and is free.

Hasleo also makes free backup software. I haven't tried it though.

Nobody likes new forum sections, especially moderators. But maybe a “Member submitted tutorials” forum section? Unless there is one that I’ve failed to find?
You get to trust the opinions and processes of particular members (i.e. @Brink or @Ghot, @Edwin @geneo ) It could be helpful?

This could also help Shawn. Shawn see’s a thread in a members submitted tutorials that has gained momentum, it could help him to decide what tutorial he makes next.

Any user tutorials that don't violate some form of forum political correctness... usually appear as a sticky at the top of a subforum.

You still have until Oct.2025 to play with W10. By then, Windows 12 will most likely be out.
Don't screw up a perfect install.

I don't want anyone to get me wrong. The forum is great, brilliant, it’s setup well. There aren’t too many sub-sections which is always great. The search works well. Most people know what they're talking about. Consolidating methods I suppose is my thought (not just for upgrading to Win11). Ultimately I think i’m bored and probably lonely lol I’m “Chilling Out”

And off topic to my point, (whatever it is) Win11 seems to be ”upgradeding” from Win10 without an issue. I kept my attempt as simple as I could. I used “Method 1” in the Upgrade Installation Procedure section of hsehestedt’s post here:

To tell you the truth, I only have a W11 because of new games that I wanted to play.
My 2017 MSI was bit slow for those newer games BUT, neither 10 nor 11 can compete
with Windows 7. I have a Eurocom Scorpius that has 7 Ultimate and is still working
now as if it was new. A real shame.

It finished upgrading (system 2 in my specs) and seems to be intact and working.

I think I did it because I am inquisitive. I’ve used Win11 on the new laptop in my specs, but I bought that for my wife so I haven’t been able to play with it. Also, I want to spend time mucking about because she can’t afford me to be taking forever if she comes across a problem. I’d like to just know how to fix it.
