Announcing COMMODORE 64 ULTIMATE

 commodore.net

Honouring the past. Innovating the future. Without the distractions that stole it.

Commodore has returned from a parallel timeline where tech stayed optimistic, inviting, and human. Where it served us, not enslaved us. We’re here to bring that feeling back - retro • futurism, transparent tech, digital detox, real innovation.

Our first step is your first way out. The glowing, translucent Commodore® 64 computer isn't a software emulator - it's the first official Commodore 64 in over 30 years, with a few new tricks.
  • Compatible with 10,000+ original retro games, cartridges, and peripherals
  • Game-reactive colour-changing LED case
  • Wi-Fi game transfer & USB "cassette" bursting with classic & new games
  • Transparent keyboard circuit board to let the tech speak for itself
  • Original C64 creator names/autographs etched forever into the mainboard
  • Spiral-bound manual, glossy classic box, and more
Whether you grew up with a Commodore or never heard of one, this is for you.

A simpler, distraction-free computing experience. A chance to learn how computers really work. A fun, inviting way to introduce kids to BASIC coding.

This isn’t tech that controls you. It invites you...

I loved playing Elite on the C64.
So did I - at home. But at work there was a BBC Micro, and I'd spend many hours playing Elite on it (after work, of course ;))

I haven't heard of Elite, but it looks a bit like space invaders? I was hooked on space invaders in the 80s 😂 Many of the pubs had big space invader machines.
Space Invaders? Pah!

Elite was a fully open play game in 3D. You could play it any way you liked. Personally I became wealthy from hunting pirates, destroying them, collecting their cargo and trading it at a space station. You had to choose your trade planet carefully though, especially if the cargo was narcotics - you could get a criminal record trading those at most planets.

It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

My very first computer was a Commodore VIC-20. It either came with or I purchased separately a cassette tape unit which was very unreliable, later replacing it with a 5.25" diskette drive. I thought I died and went to heaven.

We had the cassette tape unit with the Commodore 64 as well and it was indeed unreliable!

I had that too, but the main sorrow with it was the speed it had. You had to search the right point on the cassette to load the right program and then that was loaded in very slow.

I was glad too I could attach the CBM 1541 floppy drive. From that time speed of loading was very much more quick. I made the floppies double sided by cutting a little notch at the other side... They were rather expensive in the beginning.

That narrator! Very standard English - it sounds a bit like a BFI information film 😂

The only real game I played was the Lord of the Rings Adventure game, which was in "real time". ie different things happened if you waited. It was fascinating. But very frustrating because if you got something wrong early on in the game and had saved it (on the awful cassette recorder) you had to go back and start all over again. Also there was a bug in it (goblin's cell section). I did finally get to the end of it only to find I had only scored 97% and having done it zillions of times, I had no idea where I had lost 3% and couldn't face doing it all again.

Played it all over again about 10 years ago on a netbook via dosbox. (The excuse was educational for our boy!)
