Solved Another W11 sleep/wake problem

I wrote my post about Registry exports before I saw your last post.

So now I have S3 .... why did I want that? It's been such a trudge I've forgotten, is it a positive step? I'm losing the will to live!
Yes, it's a positive step.
You now have a better computer in my opinion.
You can set up Power options to turn off your monitor whenever you like. You can set them to [S3] sleep whenever you like. You can set them to hibernate whenever you like.
MS's justification for S0 is that it provides "the instant on that users demand". Personally, I find that the second it takes to wake from S3 Sleep is plenty fast enough for me and, given that I'll still be distracted for a moment by thinking OK this is what I'm going to do, it seems "instant" to me.
By the way, I'm jealous. My S0 computer would not enable S3 Sleep for me.

The only complicating factor now is that you need to work through the Enable or Disable Require Sign-in on Wakeup - ElevenForumTutorials again but choosing the appropriate Options for your improved computer.

Do keep an eye on your network connection at the next reboot. Some people have reported having to reinstall their WiFi driver after having disabled the curse of S0. You should be able to get a new copy of the driver from MSI without any problem at all.

All the best,
Denis

Well, that bubble soon burst.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have solved my problem at all, It's exactly the same. I've run through the various sleep and hibernate scenarios and still it wakes straight to desktop with no request for a PIN (FTR WiFi network is up).

I've been back over Brinks tutorials.
I've checked option3 - No change was required to "if you've been away, when should windows req you to sign in again" as it was already populated with "when pc wakes from sleep" although I do now have access to change that to 'Never' should I desire. So at least that's improved although setting it to 'when pc wakes' hasn't changed anything, it still opens straight to desktop without prompting for a pin.
It does however shut all open windows inc. any browser pages that were open. The prompt to restore last browser session is random.

I've run option4 "Turn On Require Sign-in on Wakeup to "When PC wakes up from sleep" for both AC and DC. PC still opening straight to desktop from sleep/hib, no pin req.

I can't use option5 because I'm on W11 Home and can't access gpedit at all (I have enabled the administrator account using windows terminal (admin)).

Option6 - I have tried "Enable_require_password_on_wakeup" and I also tried (seperately) "Not_Configured_require_password_on_wakeup (default)" as I wasn't sure if maybe changing the Windows Terminal>Account Active - Yes may be seen as a the first time it had ben configured. Both made no difference to waking from sleep going straight into an active desktop.

Done.
I restarted the PC this morning from 12hrs sleep and it went straight into desktop.
What's the point of a PIN or anything else?

I ran control userpasswords2 and "users must enter a username and password to use this computer" is ticked.
Under Properties>Group Membership I'm shown as Administrator.

And ... dare I say it ... done :D
28 restarts and all is fine!

I did a full reset, as far back to new as I could (later I noticed that some items were recognised despite not being loaded yet, eg. an Epson printer and also OneNote, so something remained of those original loads).
Then, importantly, I was careful not to let any software/apps load that I could restrict and kept well away from onedrive.
Everything was loaded to C:. (initially I hadn't noticed onedrive set itself as the default location).
Finally I went through Brinks tweaks (inc. the one to change from S0 to S3) and everything has worked perfect. I now have a laptop that goes to sleep, inc. a pulsing power button, and will not load windows without a fingerprint, PIN or the main windows password (It never asked for that before either).
I'm one happy bunny and the laptop avoided being thrown at the wall.

I'd like to say "It was this or that" but I don't know. I have built/fixed/maintained many PCs before but this is my first foray into W11.
If I was doing it again, my only advice would be to not let everything load from the initial boot as Windows throws them all at you in quick succession but to add them one-by-one once your up and running.
I might even be tempted to say let it load up and then do a factory reset as soon as you can because what I got after the reset seemed markedly different to what I saw on the very first start (maybe the unit had been out before?? who knows).
And finally, if anything doesn't work, stop ... and come here and annoy you guys and gals :)

My sincere thanks to all who have contributed, esp. glasskuter, Dru2, Brink and Try3 (y)
I'll mark the thread as solved in a short while (confidence is a still a bit fragile!) and then I'm getting a beer. Cheers 🍻
