Ever since I installed Windows 11, drag & drop files to folders on the taskbar never works. Is there any possible way to fix it? Thanks for any info! On Windows 10 I could drag any file to a folder on the taskbar and the folder would automatically pop up for me to put the file in. I have no idea why it doesn't work. I'm using the latest build fully updated. I've been using it on every other version Windows for the last 25+ years, so I'm kind of used to using it non stop. Any other programs out there to possibly fix it? Or know of a possible fix? I've tried like 10 different possible ways to fix it looking at youtube videos with no luck. Thanks

I believe you cannot drag and Drop folders to the taskbar in windows 11.

I have been using this procedure to pin a folder to the taskbar

I have been using this procedure to pin a folder to the taskbar

I'm not dragging & dropping folders to the Taskbar.

I'm having issues dragging & dropping anything to the Taskbar then into a folder, or a video to the Playlist for VLC.
For example before I could take a file I was looking at in 1 folder, click the file and drag it to the Taskbar while hovering the mouse over another folder that's on the taskbar and it would instantly show the folder I had the mouse over and I could then drop the file into that folder. Another example on VLC media player, I could click on a show or movie I have in a folder, then drag it to the Taskbar where the VLC Playlist is and hover the mouse and file and it would instantly show the VLC Playlist and I could drop the file on to the list. It does not do a thing for me on Windows 11. But every other versions of Windows I could..

Or I could click something and then drag it over the start menu button and it would show the start menu and I could drop the file where I wanted on the start menu, but it doesn't even open up when dragging a file to the start button.

I've had success in Pinning things to the Start menu then right-clicking it and choose Pin to Taskbar or choose to Unpin from Taskbar.

This is about dragging & dropping anything to the Taskbar and nothing happening, I was just giving another example of dragging something to the Taskbar and nothing happening.

I've not come across anything that will allow you to drag and drop anything to the taskbar. It might not be possible, but there could be some obscure workaround out there I don't know about.

Weird, I've been doing it for 25+ years on every other version of Windows. And I'm dragging & dropping files to folders and whatever else with 0 issues on my other Windows 10 laptop right beside me.

Be that as it may, they've taken that ability out of Windows, it seems.

I believe you cannot drag and Drop folders to the taskbar in windows 11.

I have been using this procedure to pin a folder to the taskbar

For example before I could take a file I was looking at in 1 folder, click the file and drag it to the Taskbar while hovering the mouse over another folder that's on the taskbar and it would instantly show the folder I had the mouse over and I could then drop the file into that folder.
In windows 11 you cannot pin FOLDER to the task bar. You have to CREATE a new pinnable folder as indicated in the link above. You can then pin this special folder to the task bar. After you you will be able to drag the file to the folder.

LoL wow, not 1 single reply has anything to do with what I'm talking about. I'm not trying to PIN a single thing.

Actually, I replied to your post appropriately. You apparently are still seeking for an answer that people have been trying to do unsuccessfully since Windows 11 came out.

to drag a file over an open program on the taskbar and have it bring that program (thumbnail being hovered over) to the forefront to be able to move a file or launch a file? negative. just now (literally) tested on my work pc running 24H2 with ZERO modifications, aside from GPOs, and worked perfectly fine. glad you got it working but that feature isnt disabled on 24H2 and i never had that issue on 23H2 eitehr.

It's never worked for me since I started using Windows 11 7 months ago. Even with a fresh format and install it's oddly never worked. I've read some stuff online about it not working using the Administrator account, and that's what I'm using.
