Anything related to 25H2 would at the moment technically be an insider build since 25H2 does not yet exist as a released product.

You can download the latest 25H2 build from here, too: Select language for Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26200.5670 (ge_release_upr) amd64

This site is the one I use all the time. You can select the language of your choice.

I’d be weary of any modded versions.

Yes. I currently run Dev, Beta, and Canary builds within Hyper-V AND VMware VMs all on the same 24H2 system.

I am afraid the budget laptop won't be able to do this. I got the ISO file.

Absolutely -- why not -- a VM is essentially a "separate machine" -- it shouldn't require activation if your base machine version has been activated.

As for the 25H2 ISO -UUPDUMP is the best place to get that from - select edition you want and then follow on screen instructions and run the .cmd file downloaded. The process depending on your machine can take quite a long time - and sometimes might appear to be doing nothing so on a modest machine patience is the essence. Ensure the machine doesn't go into "sleep mode" and disable switch off screen time limit -- reset again afterwards. For some reason the whole process DOES pause if it goes into background processing.

UUPDUMP is 100% safe and has been used by many far more knowlegable people on this forum than me for YEARS with no problems whatsoever.

Your 30+ years of experience comes to nought if you aren't available to take advantage of extra decent resources -- do you ever use search engines for example -- I'll bet you don't go back to an old paper library chcking stuff out !!!!-- or would you use non BMW made tools to use on BMW cars for generic things like spark plug changing etc.

If installing say loads of client machines for corporate businesses then that's another argument - but in that case the company would get you the required software - but here we are primarily dealing with individual / domestic users or really small home type businesses.

Well most of my experience is with Financial/Banking Institutions, and couple of Government institutions, so if their policies work for them, guess it's good enough for me.

My BMW, is still under BMW Warranty, and has all servicing done by BMW main dealer.

I think in the whole history of I.T and governments everywhere on the planet their I.T solutions aren't things they should be proud of , neither by overruns in time, suitability of design nor budget !!!

I'm not "touchy" just saying here most are ordinary domestic users and what's appropriate to big banks (although their systems haven't been that great lately) and big financial institutions is very different to what makes sense for home users.

As for BMW servicing I'd suspect that 95% of people on these Forums either lease a car in which case OK on your argument or have one that's well out of warranty and do a lot of basic jobs on them thenselves- most modern cars last years and years these days and are quite reliable so don't need to get swapped regularly.

Just for the sake of clarity, a VM will require separate activation, even if the host machine is activated. However, a second, third, etc. installation on the host machine as a native boot VHD will automatically activate because it is running on the same physical hardware as the already activated installation. It would act just like a clean install on that hardware and see that this system was previously activated.

Now, once you do activate a VM, it's a piece of cake to save the activation state so that if you ever need to reinstall the VM again, it will auto activate just a with a reinstall on physical hardware. Note that I have tested this only on VMware Workstation Pro and Hyper-V although I suspect it could also be done on other hypervisors.

With a few hours of later winter night TV viewing, I decided to use that time to try installing a 25H2 26200.5690 ISO from UUPDUMP. Just curiosity and a suitable time slot available. LIsted on UUP as "Insider", which I am decidely not, nonetheless it formed the ISO in it's usual fashion (slow, on my budget laptop), while I watched the telly.

Already had my existing 24H2 installation securely imaged first, so I just ran the "Setup" after using Rufus on the ISO to prepare an installation USB drive, then installing without loss of data, programmes and most settings. Just a routine live update install, local account. Again, while "Install" ran its' slow enough course, my winter night TV went on uninterrupted.

Rebooted without incident, desktop returned as normal, and the machine was indeed then on Home 25H2 26200.5690. I'd finally organised rapid repair of chosen fonts, HyperV and Local Group Policy (both on Home version) so after these few mouse burps, the 25H2 version seemed rock solid. The UUPDUMP ISO for 25H2 26200.5690 worked as live update install on a bog standard Home 24H2 without incident.

I've reverted to the 24H2 image until any bugs in 25H2 I didn't find are fixed, and we're sure that the 5690 version will be replaced with a more recent one when 25H2 is released into the standard world.

Referring to my post about 25H2 installation, the version is 25H2 26200.5670 - NOT 26200.5690.
