Solved Anyone know how to stop windows 11 from constantly turning off NumLock?

Every day, when I start my computer, windows turns off NumLock after boot, ignoring the BIOS setting. I turn it back on, only to find it's off again when I try to use the number keys. Anyone know how to force windows 11 to leave NumLock on at all times? Is that even possible?

None. Manully configured so nobody except me can change any critical system files. (Don't ask how, it's probably against some rule somewhere)
On some devices, it can be set on the BIOS setup, when you start the computer, press F2 or Del repeatedly to enter the BIOS menu and look for the Num Lock option (usually under the "Miscellaneous" menu).

What I don't understand is, why isn't this working without a registry edit. I have my numlock off on purpose in the BIOS, and it stays off when I boot Windows. I actually do see it flip on during the boot, but then it goes off before it gets to my login.

OTOH, my wife's PC, also running Win11, has the numlock on in the BIOS, and it stays on after boot. I did nothing to force that behavior, I just installed Windows.

been an issue for over a year now. one workaround i found that i have never had it randomly turned off after applying:

People have reported varying experiences about this.
- I had my Bios set to turn on NumLock but, like the OP, I found that it was off when I came to use my numerical keypad keys.
- NumLock Registry entry - icpwolverine #11 - TenForums recommended changing two Registry values but I found that I only needed to change the first of these, the HKCU one [I did not need to change the HKU one. I left that at 2147483648].

Later on, I found an additional problem. My NumLock turned off when I opened a particular Excel spreadsheet.
- When I looked into this, I discovered that I was not alone.
- Any use of Excel VBA SendKeys commands turns off NumLock. That's any use including use for keys totally unrelated to NumLock.
- I replaced my use of Excel VBA SendKeys with calls to their VBScript equivalents and my NumLock is no longer affected so all is now well.
So, instead of​
SendKeys "%L%", True [This unrelated command turned off my NumLock]​
I now have​
CreateObject("WScript.Shell").SendKeys "%L%", True [This command does not affect my NumLock setting.]​
