Anyone Know What This Is?

Installed Star Wars Battlefront 2 for the first time on my laptop after upgrading from Win 10 to Win 11, and when the game is playing I see what appears to be an "audio visualizer" on the right of my screen:

This is not part of the game, and was not visible when I was running Win 10.

It is only visible when the game has focus and I'm getting audio - either through the laptop speakers or through a headset. If I move focus to a different window / screen then the game continues merrily (and silently) and the "visualizer" disappears.

I suspect this is something to do with Win 11 (even though I only see it with this title - music, audiobooks, videos, other games do not show similar) but I've no idea what it is and why I'm seeing it.

I am running Windows 11 Home, version 21H2, OS build 22000.376, experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.376.0

Grateful for any insights, help or advice.

It is up to date and there are no patches etc. showing as available.

According to a post from a "Champion of Answers" on the EA Answers HQ it works fine on Windows 11 and on Steam it says recommended OS is "64-bit Windows 10 or later" so I feel pretty confident that it is Win 11 compatible.

My issue does feel a bit like it is some kind of system generated overlay rather than anything to do with the game itself, which I why suspect it is a Win 11 "feature" of some kind.

That's good then I suppose it's checking windows settings next especially in accessibility, although I cannot recall seing anything. I do agree with you, it looks like some win 11 feature ( not a hidden feature in the game )

I noticed the blue indicators I the left display seem to be pointing in the same direction as the blue arrows within the left hand display which makes me think the upgrade has also improved gaming.

@Fidney Are you playing a single or multiplayer game?

What sound system does your PC use? It could be a positional audio overlay as part of your audio drivers, as others have said it may be a feature of updated drivers (audio in this case) or is it possible it is generated by your monitor, some monitors have a game overlay option built in, although I am not aware of any providing audio functions.

It could be that the "audio tracker" reflects some kind of basic or earned ability of your in-game character? Like the character has some kind of telepathic force that can pick up faint audio and footsteps around them. I don't have that game to find out, but I do remember seeing similar feature on Deus Ex. If you start game again at level one, with a different character, does the identified "tracker" vanish? Maybe the "tracker" is only visible on the "Easy" game settings - that could be another explanation.

You guys are fantastic, thanks for the help. I've not got an Asus or ROG soundcard, but I do have a Dell which has Alienware Command Centre and part of that is Alienware Sound Centre.

It appears that Alienware Sound Centre has a Sound Radar / Audio Recon which seems to be the Dell equivalent of the ROG Sonic Radar. Can't actually run the Sound Centre app itself for some reason - it doesn't appear in start menu as a separate programme, and search can't find it, BUT the Audio Recon can be toggled on and off using CTRL, SHIFT & S. Guess I inadvertently toggled it on at some point.

I knew I had the Command Centre and I had checked in that when trying to diagnose my problem, but nowhere in that is there any mention of sound or the Alienware Sound Centre so did not think it was anything to do with that. However after all your helpful suggestions I ended up Googling "alienware command centre sonic radar" which turned up a Reddit discussion which mentioned it was a feature of the Alienware Sound Centre and how to toggle it.

End result, I'm now a happy bunny and I have a new toy to play with which I never even knew I had (and I'm not even sure I want).
