I kind of changed my mind, I'm not yet ready to install it on my main rig. It is not that stable yet. So I only love it as a VIRTUAL MACHINE. But it looks very very promising.

You can find a $30 120GB SSD. It is good enough to run Windows 11 Insider Preview on your main rig or any PC without messing up your main day to day Windows 10 OS. You just need to hit an F key to choose which Windows OS to boot up.
So, why not? That is what I've been doing since Windows 10 Insider begun.

I have not installed it on my primary desktop yet, but have installed it on my primary laptop.

I also just completed my first real stress test using Win 11 on that laptop.

I have a program that I wrote that injects updates into Windows images. It does a very large amount of mounting various windows images, copy large amounts of data from images to the HD, running various commands such as DISM to manipulate the Windows images, and finally writing a final ISO image to the HD. Takes about 8 hours to update a large number of Win 10 ISO images.

All of this ran flawlessly on my 7th gen Intel i7 based laptop. I know that Microsoft is evaluating 7th gen CPUs to see if they make the cut for their requirements, but so far, Win 11 is running flawlessly on this machine so I hope it ends up making the cut for final release of Win 11.

I have many programs and games installed and everything working in W10 also works with W11.

Oh, I have no doubt they will work, but for now I can't be bothered with the licensing. Some vendors are rather lax on how you use their licenses, but others are very strict. In order to install Mathematica here I would have to deactivate the license on the Windows 10 install, for example.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
I already run Windows 11 as my daily driver. Running natively from a VHD though. It won't break my Windows 10 install this way. If 11 breaks for some reason, I will still have a working system.

So far everything has been running very well in Win11 that I have not had the need to use Win10 at all.

I've been using 11 as a daily since the first dev came out and for me, at least, it's perfect. It just works and I love the new interface

Is it perfect for everyone? No.. but Windows never will achieve that

Yes, since the first leaked dev build. I'm using it on my daily laptop.
Even windows 10 insider dev builds always on my main laptop and never on VM. Once i have experimented to install Windows 10 and Mac OS X Lion on VMware Workstation but didn't like, some performance issues.

I run W10 on the beta channel, (or perhaps the release preview channel) using my most used pc. It is close, or maybe compatible with W11 and would be upgraded if it doesn't require any more hardware changes, as I only changed the motherboard, processor and memory a year ago.

I imaged my OS drive, and then did a clean install of 22000.51. (uupdump.net) So far, no glitches or crashes. Surprisingly solid for an "alpha" OS.

The only oddity I've seen so far is that when I installed the Corsair iCue software (to monitor and control my AIO CPU water cooler), I got nothing when I went to its "dashboard", which displays things like fan speeds and temperature monitors. I checked: everything was present, but disabled by default. After manually turning stuff on, all appears normal.

Having scanned some of the posts on this thread, I notice that several people have simply put W11 on another drive in addition to having their W10. I was under the impression that 11 was a free upgrade from 10 and assumed that I would not be able to have my cake and eat it too. I have a 250Gb SSD which would run 11, what do you think about it?

I used my W10 insider developer version (and it's license) which I was already running on second disk as dual boot with regular W10, to upgrade to W11.
That way they don't interfere with each other like they would if on same disk.

When the leaked build of Windows 11 was available I tried it in a VM and liked what I saw. Then I did a upgrade install on my laptop. Once Windows 11 was officially released I used Windows Update and updated my main desktop. A day or so later I brought my old desktop out of sleep and saw that Windows Update had already downloaded and all I had to do was hit restart. On my laptop I did a Macrium Image Restore back to Windows 10 and used Windows update to update it. Today I checked and found that my laptop was older than I thought. It's a 6th gen i7. So far I haven't had any problems running Windows 11 on it. If I do have problems I will go back to Windows 10.

Yep, same here. Though for the most part, I find myself booting into Win 11 more than 10 lately.
