Anyone thinking on installing Windows 11 insider on their main desktop?

Yes, W11 is on my daily driver since 2+ weeks.

Event Viewer tells me it's very stable. Initially, there were some bumps and bruises (like little freezes and a few unfamiliar errors) but these cleared up spontaneously. The few remaining errors I had were cleared up by doing the google shuffle.

I was always a little timid of the DEV channel but this is a pleasant surprise. It's been pretty painless so far.

Yes, I can always revert back.

Anyway, Microsoft seems to be all in with the security of Windows 11 so I could envision them not relenting on the CPU requirements, considering the seventh gen processors came out between 16 and 17 so....

On the flipside I can also see where they would allow older processors, but restrict certain features or updates until one gets a processor that fully meets Windows 11's full requirements.

I have since day one. No problems at all until today--applications not running on startup. Haven't had time to research yet.

Windows 11 is so fast for me that from a cold boot, it has entered the login screen before my monitor has even turned on. Apps start very fast too.

Yes, Win11 is much faster than Win10 :)

It does seem that way. That said, the test machine I'm using doesn't have a lot of other apps installed yet, so that can also play a role as well.

I changed my vote from maybe to yes just now. There is some stability issues, and there will continue to be, but they seem manageable.

I am toying with the idea now that help from the W10 and W11 forums has enabled me to get my pc into the approved for W11 status. It is on the beta channel, so Microsoft will get around to offering W11 in the near future. The alternative would be to get the upgrade from another source and not wait.

I have changed my vote from maybe to yes as I changed my W10 from the beta channel to the developers channel and was immediately offered W11 by Microsoft. Exactly one hour later I had W11 and was pleased to find that it was not too different from W10 that I couldn't figure it out. The only thing I would like different is having the task bar running up the left side of my screen. That may become possible with later work from Microsoft. This pc is the one I use more than any of my other machines and the only one able to run W11 to Microsoft's satisfaction. In my case the upgrade was totally pain free and swift.

This is how I do insider OS testing without messing up my day to day OS on my secondary rig. These days, you can buy a $30 to $40 120GB SSD which is good enough for insider OS. I just plug out my other OSes and plug in the insider OS. This prevents boot manager mix up during updates/upgrades. No VM setups required. Just pure solid state hardware.

I was dead set against installing on hardware BUT! Again I gave in. I installed Windows 11 22000.100 on my laptop ( DELL Inspiron N7110 Completely Unsupported ) And am pleasantly surprised that everything works like a charm! I haven't found a problem as of yet. As to the POLL: "Will you install Windows 11 insider build on your main PC?" Not At This Time. My laptop is my experiment. I'll wait till more improvements come down the pipe. I'll make that known in the poll.

The poll question is an open ended question. If you ask me, there is no problem installing Windows 11 insider build on my main PC using a separate SSD.

I think the assumption is that the only OS on the PC would be 11 and it wouldn't have two separate drives with two Operating Systems on it. I have Win 11 running on my rig and I don't have a dual boot set up. I could have set that up but I hate setting up a dual boot and I thought,, what the heck. Give it a try and the worst is I have to reinstall 10 again

Then the question should be "Will you replace your Win10 OS with Windows 11 insider build on your main PC?".
The answer is definitely a NO for me. But there are other ways to test it on your main PC without erasing your Windows 10.
I hope you have a backup image of your W10.

I don't have enough installed on my PC to really need a backup. Right now I can install everything in about 2 hours, tops. Yes.. the question could have been worded badly... but hey.. we're all human and none of us is perfect.

For my System Two below I swapped out its original drive, put an image of it on the replacement, then upgraded that to 11. Come RTM time it's likely that such an old unsupported machine may be blocked/bricked by MS, so it's original drive will go back in
