Anyone using ImDisk(the ram drive)

Is this some kind of win11 protection or the program is missing something that is required to work properly on win11(works fine on win10)
When I try to run some programs from the ram drive,I get an error
If I move the program to anywhere outside the ram drive then it works fine

I wonder if it's a problem with ImDisk,if it is to try another ram disk program

Try uninstalling ramdrive, then reinstalling it.

If that does not work, you need to contact ram disk developers.

Radeon RamDisk is the one i use. the free version allows use of 4GB of RamDisk
which is enough for my needs.

I use Romex Primo Ramdisk (paid). I keep a very long list of free (unpaid) software I like; ramdisk software is not on the list. ImDisk could have been the only exception to this, but it has its problems, and it can be slow (for how I use my ramdisk anyway...). Additionally, it still has a tendency to consume too much RAM space when compared to Primo's Dynamic Memory Management and Compact Mode. That's a bit of a shame, as there aren't too many ramdisk software choices to consider if preventing available free space on the ramdisk from eating up (even though it's empty...) so much space in RAM is a priority—and IMO it should be.

Windows has changed something in the past year, which is causing this error, but maybe other program will work.
While it is an inconvenience, it works pretty well, like dynamically allocated RAM, I it set to 32GB, it uses 900MB now.
As far as I know about other alternatives, SoftPerfect RAM Disk seems to be the only updated, but it lacks some features.

The author is making a new app (Arsenal Image Mounter) and I switched to it.

i use my RamDisk to store the Windows swap file set to 1024MB min - 1024MB max
i also have the swap file set to clear every reboot/shutdown

my browser cache file(s) are also setup on the RamDisk
both for Edge and Vivaldi browsers

Ram is the fastest type of storage on the system and using it takes some weight off of the SSD
plus in some ways gives another buffer of security to the system.

ImDisk supports FAT, FAT32, NTFS, etc., but some programs may not run properly unless the disk is NTFS.

Recreate the RAM disk with NTFS file system:

(Not sure about the settings though.)
In ImDisk, go to "Mount New..." > Set file system to NTFS (not FAT or unformatted).
Recopy GPU-Z.exe to the new disk and try again.

I know that this is going to sound complicated, but it's actually pretty simple IMO. I mostly use it to run Firefox Portable with its AllowMultipleInstances=true setting, sandboxed with Sandboxie-Plus while (sometimes) using multiple sandboxes at once, such a way that (some of) the sandbox location(s) is/are on the ramdisk—depending what exactly it is that I want to to achieve—but the FirefoxPortable folder(s) usually is/are not (although that also depends). It's what allows me to take browser automation to a whole other level with a small bunch of scripts and programs that I wrote, and, some of these also have built-in capabilities to automate transfer of files between the ramdisk and the SSD (relying on FastCopy for the copying part of that mechanism).

I also use similar techniques for some other stuff besides Sandboxie-Plus and automating the browser + its various many configurations + addons. E.g., to build myself a custom bootable ISO before I use FastCopy to copy it to my Ventoy-formatted USB flash drive. Laptops have a battery so, the volatility inherent of ramdisks is not a particularly huge concern to me.

For example,less writing to the ssd and the ram drive reading and writing speed is MUCH faster than any ssd
I set the ram drive as the windows temp and download folder
I have 64gb of ram

I am using ImDisk, already many years and I have no problems at all. In April 2023 I have gone over to Windows 11 and there too: no problem at all.

Normally I am not running any program directly from the RAM Drive created so, only use it for scratch and storing temp files. Possibly some of the temp files will be exe files that run from there, if so, I have no problems with them.

But I remember I had about the same message, when I was using a certain app, that did not want the temp folder to be located in this RAM-disk area. Then I changed the location of Temp folder back to the default. The app I had troubles with I dont use anymore (can't even remember what app it was), so I restored the setting for Temp files on the RAM Disk location.

So you might just try what happens if you change the Temp folder location (if that's the problem at first place).

For your help I made screenshots of all the actual ImDisk settings.

Just watched the Temp folder on this Ram Disk area and noted that the last app that was updated (EM-client) did use the Temp folder to temporarily store the install file (extension .msi). So running apps from that area basically is no problem (unless the app itself does not want the temp files to be stored om that location).

@Kees can you try running GPU-Z from the ram drive(there is a version that does not require installation)
I tried changing the file system from exfat to ntfs but I still get the same error

No, I won't run any software on my system that I don't need, not even if there are portable versions. Want to keep my system as clean as possible.

For test purposes I have my VirtualBox system, but in this case that will not help.
That's because in Windows running in VirtualBox no RamDisk is possible.

So, I am sorry, but can't help you.

Possibly that's an explanation. Can't check it, because as I said, I don't remember what app was presenting the error message.
I just did a test: copied some very large files into ZIP, using the built in Windows zip method.
Files were about twice the size of the ram-disk, but no problems at all.
Of course I copied the files to a location on the same drive as the original ones. If I would have tried to use the ram-disk itself for that, it certainly would have reported that there was a shortage of space.

I find a solution
I am the admin and the uac is set to the lowest level(it doesn't matter at what level it is set)but attempting to run a program from the ram drive that requires admin privileges,windows fails to display the uac prompt(or rather fails to run the code that checks my level)so the solution is run run ANY program(even notepad)as admin,navigate to the executable in the ram drive and then you can run it
cmd as admin and it works

For some reason the "Run as Administrator" is not exactly the same thing as running it the way I mention above and because of that, "Run as Administrator" also fails

It seems to be a bug since the 24H update
