Not sure if its StartAllBack or Explorer patcher that allows it. One of them might not run, you apparently need to rename the exe (installer)
I am not sure if that is the case with release versions of Windows though, might be just Insiders versions of Windows.

I used to be able to get around this problem (and the one where instead of an app-shortcut you get a folder) by simply creating a folder (_Programs) and assigning it to the taskbar - voila a popup menu with apps. but alas View attachment 94222the taskbar no longer seems to accept such.

Perhaps it is because the executable is named i_view64.exe, and Bing / Copilot / something else may be trying to steer you away from the executable itself. The desktop shortcut would have shown you the path to the executable, also, by taking a look at the properties.

FWIW, I use IV as my default image viewer with minor editing capabilities, but I use it as a portable app (using the .ZIP file downloaded and extracted to its own folder) rather than installing it. It still works the same, and the associations can still be made in Settings to make it the default image viewer.

To be honest, Taskbar Toolbars are okay, unless the folders have lots of items, because you can't mouse scroll in the cascading jump lists! P-i-t-a!

I prefer a utility such as QTTabBar where scrollable cascading menus can be invoked from just about anywhere...

That is true, You can not pin a folder to the taskbar without using a 3rd party tool.

This is being made more difficult than it actually is. It's very simple.
If you want a desktop shortcut to Irfanview, just drag Irfanview 64.4.67 from the start menu to the desktop.
If you want Irfanview on your taskbar, right click on Irfanview 64.4.67, select more, and select pin to taskbar.
Or, as Edwin said, if you want to pin Irfanview to the start menu, right click on Irfanview 64.4.67 and select pin to start

The entire context menu and taskbar screenshot in post #32 is not native windows 11. Some 3rd party tool at work. Only JRO can tell us which one. And now he's going to install startallback on top of that.

@jro11 I thought your goal was to get Windows 11 working again so you could learn Windows 11 without adding all the 3rd party stuff. You can't stack them on top of each other without expecting issues to arise

And don’t change stuff unless you have made an image before every change. Sounds radicle but you seem to like digging holes.
