Solved Are these folders needed?

In my C:\Windows folder I have a few other folders, all from Alienware and they are all .msi with names like DellUpdateApp.msi, DellCommandUpdateApp.msi or DellUpdate.msi Can they be deleted? they look quite old by the dates and I thought they had probably been used by Dell to install updates and are now finished with.

How much space are they taking up? If it's not that much just leave them alone.

The MSI extension indicates they are installers So I would be careful about deleting them, they could be used by Dell's own update system that keeps specialist apps and drivers current.

Unless they are causing a huge issue I would leave them alone

I would probably remove all but the latest one as long as you have the system backup in place.

Thanks @barman58 I was really just curious about whether they were "leftovers" or not, I am not short of space (still got 1.65TB free on that drive)

@The-Hive , If I have any doubts about deleting a file or folder, I won't delete it. Better safe than sorry.

You can try to rename them, add an extension to folder names like "BAK"
Wait for 3 months, look for error or issues then erase them.

For example I uninstalled Edge from system. But these folders were still on system.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeCore"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeView"

I renamed the folders to;

EdgeCoreBAK
EdgeUpdateBAK
EdgeViewBAK

I waited for 2 weeks, then i deleted them.

It is what I do, when I want to delete a folder or folders from the SystemDrive.

Thanks @Feuer All sorted by @barman58 If I did want to try anything like that I would just move them to a different folder or to a data pen

Would Disk Cleanup not remove these folders if they were redundant?
